Gulf Coast Sleep Center

Gulf Coast Sleep Center Gulf Coast Sleep Center is located in Lake Jackson, Texas. Gulf Coast Sleep Center tests and diagnoses people for this slumber-depriving disorder.

Fatigue, lack of focus, snoring and irritability can all be signs of sleep apnea, a sleeping disorder many people do not realize they have. Sleep apnea is when a person stops breathing for 10 seconds or longer while asleep and/or their oxygen levels drop by at least 4 percent. This can occur 5 to 30 or more times per hour. If the disorder is not treated, the lack of sleep can lead to serious medic

al issues, such as high blood pressure, cardiac problems, stroke, memory problems and accidents. This is important to diagnose for shift workers and truck drivers. Having seen more than 3,000 patients since opening in 2009, Gulf Coast Sleep Center's Certified Technicians attach electrodes to patients to monitor their sleeping patterns over the course of one or two nights. The results are then analyzed by a physician. If sleep apnea is the diagnosis, a continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP for short, machine can be prescribed for the patient to use. The portable machine helps open the patient's airway, allowing them to breath comfortably and, for some, experience the best sleep of their life.

There are three types of Sleep Apnea:

1. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) - the most common - is when your upper airway becomes blocked.

2. Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) is related to the Central Nervous System and occurs when the brain stops signaling the body to breathe until it detects a lack of oxygen.

3. Complex Sleep Apnea (CompSA) is a combination of OSA and CSA.
