As we age, the synovial fluid in our joints can lessen, causing pain, stiffness and arthritis. It is important to note that while SOME causes for the decrease in fluid are age-related, lifestyle factors like staying hydrated, maintaining a healthy weight, and exercising regularly can help support healthy synovial fluid levels and overall joint health. If experiencing joint pain or stiffness, schedule a consultation with one of our orthopedic experts today at (407) 977-4130.

🧘‍♀️ Yoga vs. Strength Training for Knee Osteoarthritis? 🏋️‍♂️

A recent study in JAMA Network Open found that both yoga and strengthening exercises significantly improved knee pain in people with osteoarthritis over 12 weeks. The key takeaway? You don’t have to choose one over the other—both can help you move better and feel stronger.

Other results from the research:
- By 24 weeks, yoga participants showed better results in pain levels, physical function, quality of life, and depression scores
- People practicing yoga at home stuck with their routines better than those doing strengthening exercises (70% vs 60% adherence), suggesting yoga might be easier to maintain long-term

At Greater Orlando Orthopedic Group, we’re here to guide you toward the best treatment plan for your joints.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections are a non-operative treatment for orthopedic conditions and offer several potential benefits, including promoting tissue healing, reducing inflammation, and potentially improving joint function and pain relief. They can also be used for post-surgical healing. Call us at (407) 977-4130 to learn more.

Here's a more detailed look at the benefits:
1. Tissue Healing and Regeneration:
PRP injections can stimulate the body's natural healing processes by concentrating platelets, which release growth factors that help repair damaged tissues.
This can be beneficial for injuries like tendonitis, ligament tears, and muscle strains.
2. Pain Relief and Reduced Inflammation:
The anti-inflammatory properties of platelets in PRP can help reduce inflammation and pain associated with conditions like osteoarthritis, tendinitis, and chronic joint pain. PRP injections may lead to improved mobility and function by reducing pain and swelling.
3. Post-Surgical Healing:
PRP injections can be used as a supplement to surgery to promote faster healing and reduce scarring. They may also help reduce the need for pain medications.

Important Considerations:
PRP injections are not a one-size-fits-all solution and may not be effective for all conditions.
It may take several weeks or even months to see the full effects of PRP injections, and results may vary depending on the individual and the condition being treated.

Living with arthritis or chronic joint pain can feel like a daily battle—but what you put on your plate might help tip the scales in your favor. While no single food can cure arthritis, research shows that certain dietary choices can reduce inflammation and support joint health. Just as importantly, some foods can make symptoms worse.

Here are some key foods to avoid if you're managing arthritis or trying to reduce joint inflammation:

1. Sugar and Refined Carbohydrates
2. Fried and Processed Foods
3. Red and Processed Meats
4. Dairy Products
5. Alcohol and To***co
6. Excessive Salt
7. Gluten
8. Omega-6 Fatty Acids
9. MSG

The Bottom Line: Your Diet Matters
While food alone won’t eliminate arthritis pain, avoiding inflammatory triggers can make a noticeable difference in how you feel day-to-day.

If you’re struggling with arthritis pain or joint discomfort, we’re here to help. Our expert team offers compassionate care and advanced treatment options to help you move better and live well.

📱 A Generation in Pain: The Posture Problem We Can’t Ignore 🧍‍♂️🧍‍♀️

Musculoskeletal issues are rising sharply among kids and teens—NHS referrals for those under 18 have jumped 50% since 2019. Why?

This is the first generation to:

🔹 Get smartphones in early adolescence
🎮 Game through their teens
💻 Take laptops everywhere
📚 Study, socialize, and work—curled over screens in the now all-too-familiar C-shaped “desk posture”

Ten years of slouching before they even entered the workforce. And now, the effects on young adults are impossible to miss.

At Greater Orlando Orthopedic Group, we’re seeing the consequences firsthand: neck pain, shoulder issues, posture-related strains—even early degeneration.

But here’s the good news: prevention and early intervention work. Teaching proper ergonomics, encouraging posture-aware habits, and providing the right care now can make all the difference later.

🧠 Let’s help this generation stand tall again—literally.
