Spring in Florida means more time outside—but it also means a rise in injuries. ☀️🌴

Each year, orthopedic specialists see a noticeable increase in sprains, strains, and overuse injuries this time of year. The reason is simple: activity levels ramp up faster than the body is prepared to handle.

From long days on the golf course to weekend pickleball matches and yard work in the heat, these sudden increases in movement can place added stress on joints, muscles, and tendons.

Common spring injuries we see:
• Shoulder and knee strain
• Tendonitis (especially in the elbow and Achilles)
• Lower back pain from lifting or repetitive motion

A few ways to reduce your risk:
✔ Gradually increase activity intensity and duration
✔ Incorporate proper warm-ups and stretching
✔ Stay hydrated and take breaks—especially in the Florida heat
✔ Pay attention to early signs of discomfort

Ignoring minor pain can often lead to more significant injury and longer recovery times.

If something feels off, it’s worth having it evaluated sooner rather than later—so you can stay active and enjoy everything spring in Florida has to offer.

⚠️ When is your child’s sports injury more than “just soreness”?

It’s easy to brush off aches and pains as part of the game—but some symptoms shouldn’t be ignored. Overuse injuries in young athletes are on the rise, and catching them early can make all the difference.

Here are a few red flags parents should watch for 👇

🔴 Pain that doesn’t go away after rest
🔴 Limping or favoring one side
🔴 Decreased performance or avoiding activity
🔴 Swelling that keeps coming back
🔴 Pain that wakes them up at night

Kids won’t always speak up—sometimes it shows up in how they move (or don’t).

Pushing through pain might seem tough in the moment, but it can lead to longer recovery times and more serious injuries down the road.

✅ What you can do:
• Encourage rest days (yes—even during the season)
• Make sure they’re cross-training, not just repeating the same motion
• Listen when they say something hurts—and take it seriously

Your goal isn’t just raising a great athlete—it’s raising a healthy one. 🧡

If something feels off, it’s worth getting it checked out early.

Yard work might not feel like a workout—but your body knows better.

In Florida, you’re not just dealing with lifting and bending… you’re adding heat and humidity into the mix. That’s where injuries tend to sneak in.

Taking just a few minutes to warm up can help you:

✔ Reduce joint strain

✔ Improve mobility

✔ Prevent common injuries

✔ Handle the heat more safely

If you’re dealing with lingering pain or an injury that won’t go away, it may be time to get it checked out.

Your next step doesn’t have to be surgery—sometimes it just starts with the right care plan.

If you’re dealing with joint pain, tendon injuries, or slow-healing conditions, there’s a reason more orthopedic specialists are turning to PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections.

At Greater Orlando Orthopedic Group, our physicians use PRP to help your body do what it was designed to do—heal itself.

PRP is created using a small sample of your own blood, concentrated with healing platelets, and injected directly into the injured area. The result? A natural, targeted approach to recovery.

Why patients are choosing PRP:
✔ Supports faster healing
✔ Reduces inflammation and pain
✔ Minimally invasive (no surgery required)
✔ Uses your body’s own biology—no synthetic additives
✔ Can help treat conditions like tendonitis, arthritis, and ligament injuries

Whether you're an athlete trying to get back in the game or just tired of dealing with daily discomfort, PRP may be a smart next step.

Curious if it’s right for you? Our team is here to help you explore your options and get you moving again.

Osteoporosis is often referred to as a “silent disease” — and in many cases, it goes undetected until a fracture occurs.

However, there are early indicators that can signal declining bone health, many of which are frequently overlooked or attributed to normal aging.

A recent article from Parade highlights several of these commonly missed signs, including posture changes, loss of height, and unexplained back pain.

At Greater Orlando Orthopedic Group , early identification is critical in helping patients reduce fracture risk and maintain mobility.

Awareness is the first step toward prevention.

Sitting all day is quietly wrecking your hips.

Tight, stiff, achy… and eventually? Your back joins the party too.

The fix isn’t complicated—you just need the right mix of stretching and strength (not endless random workouts).

This quick routine is based on recommendations from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and built for real life:
✔ Takes ~10 minutes
✔ No equipment needed
✔ Actually works if you stick with it

Start here, stay consistent, and your hips will feel the difference fast.

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury for older adults — but the good news is most falls are preventable.

Recent research shows that fall prevention isn’t just about “being careful.” The biggest impact comes from building strength and balance, reviewing medications, improving vision, and making simple home safety changes. Programs that combine exercise (especially strength + balance training) with risk checks can significantly reduce fall risk and help seniors stay independent longer.

Small actions add up:
✔ Strength and balance exercises
✔ Medication reviews with your provider
✔ Vision checks
✔ Removing home hazards like rugs and poor lighting

At Greater Orlando Orthopedic Group, preventing injuries is just as important as treating them. If you or a loved one feel unsteady, a proactive plan can make all the difference.

👉 Stay strong. Stay steady. Stay independent.

Diabetes doesn’t just affect blood sugar — it can impact your joints, too.

Research shows nearly half of adults living with diabetes also have arthritis or chronic joint pain. High blood sugar can increase inflammation and damage cartilage, which may speed up joint wear and tear over time.

The good news? Managing blood sugar, staying active, and getting the right orthopedic care can help protect your joints and keep you moving.

If you’re managing diabetes and noticing joint pain, you don’t have to push through it alone. Our specialists are here to help you stay strong, mobile, and doing what you love. Call us at (407) 977-4130.
