Happy November! 🍂

Our teacher of the month is Clare! ✨

Clare is back from maternity leave and bringing her uplifting energy to Wednesday mornings at 8AM for Yoga Sculpt. Her classes are all about finding balance between strength and ease, moving mindfully, and discovering joy both on and off the mat.

The pose of the month is Skandasana.
💡 Also known as Side Lunge Pose, (or Yogi Ninja) benefits of this pose include:
• stretches inner thighs, hamstrings, and hips
• improves balance and mobility
• strengthens legs and ankles
• opens chest and shoulders
• cultivates focus and grounding

📸 Tag us in your photos when you try Skandasana!

💐 Join Clare Wednesdays at 8AM to move, breathe, and flow. 🌼

✨ Yoga Sutra 1.4 reminds us — when we are not in yoga, we identify with the modifications of the mind.

When we’re not in the present moment, our thoughts can take over.
We lose our sense of self.
We get lost in the emotions.
It becomes difficult to separate self from other.

As we’ve reflected on this sutra over the last month, take a moment to notice:
How has your awareness of your thought patterns shifted?

Bound seated half lotus 4 ways:

This pose of the month is a tricky one!! Let's look at some variations that help make the pose more accessible while still working on the elements of the posture.

1. Janu sirsana. A different pose entirely. This pose still helps to open up the hips and lengthen the spine - both needed for bound half lotus. Place the bottom of the right foot to the inside of the left thigh. Allow yourself to fold over your straight leg. Think about the right thigh spirally back and down while the foot presses into the thigh. Breathe into the backside of the body.

2. Can't reach the foot? Neither can we! Use a strap! Bring the right foot into half lotus. Place a strap around the lotus foot. Bring the right arm behind the back as if you were reaching for the foot but hold onto the strap instead, inviting the shoulder to open. There's a tendency to lift the right shoulder up towards the ceiling. Work on the chest being perpendicular to the earth.

3. Place a block under your lotus leg. The placement of the block can help to support the hip and knee. If it feels like there's too much tension or stress here, the block is your best friend! It can allow the hip to gentle open and feel supported while doing so.

4. Take out the forward fold. There's a lot happening in this pose! You can always take a step out. Maybe you focus on opening the shoulders, maybe you focus on opening the hips.

Lots of options, lots of variations!
Which is your favorite?
Which are you working on in your practice?

Yoga reminds us that peace isn’t something to find — it’s something we uncover beneath the noise. Each breath, each pause, brings us closer to that quiet knowing within. 🤍
