"Bressingham Gala, A Steam Lovers Paradise"

Spent the BH Monday filling my senses with the delights of steam traction at the Bressingham Steam Museums Annual Steam Gala!

You'd be hard to find a better location for Road & Rail steam to come together, with the museums 4 railways all operating alongside a wonderful collection of Traction Engines, Steam Rollers and Stationary Engines, there was something in steam every which way you looked!

This years event saw the appearance of GER S56/LNER J69 'Buckjumper' on display outside the display shed for the first time in many years, so nice to see her in the fresh/smokey air for a change, just a shame she's not a runner! Also appearing was Bredgar resident O&K 'EIGIAU', enjoying a little holiday working on the Fen Railway, another nice sight!

It's a wonderful atmosphere at Bressingham's Gala, so much going on and with all those sounds and smells, it's a proper paradise! 05/05/2025

"Late Night Brush"

Not content with seeing the InterCity Duff once, I decided to head out past my bedtime and catch her again on the return working. At just after 11:15pm, the InterCity Brush is seen at Colchester dropping off passengers who had boarded the train a mere 15 hours earlier at 8am. Definitely worth the late night to see this! 14/05/2025

"North Weald Westerner"

A pleasant Saturday morning spent at North Weald station on the Epping Ongar Railway to photograph resident Great Western Hall 4953 Pitchford Hall, currently the railways only available steam loco.

With plans in the afternoon I only spent an hour or so at the railway but managed to get some rather nice photos of the mixed traffic machine, so cool to have such a nice engine on one of my local lines!

"Rivals Reunited"

A sight last seen some 36 years ago in Australia, 4079 Pendennis Castle and 60103 Flying Scotsman would be seen together again at the Didcot Railway Centre for what was dubbed 'Rivals Reunited', a three week long event which saw the Scotsman visiting the Centre with a selection of both Static and Steam Days, with Pendennis joining the celebrations following a refreshed paint job and a change of tender, being paired with a smaller one which she would have had back in 1925, the first time her and the A3 were to meet!

I attended the reunion on the first Sunday of the event, this being one of the static days, which although saw Scotsman stationary, Pendennis would be less so as she would be in steam and in charge of passenger trains on the main demonstration line.

Surprisingly the Centre wasn't as busy as I thought it would be for a Scotsman event, with families making up the majority of the attendees that I saw, perhaps most of the A3s fans are waiting till her steam days, although it worked in my favor as it meant mostly people free photos, excellent! A nice day had nonetheless, great to see the A3 again and oh my does Pendennis look lovely! 18/05/2025

"Static Scotsman"

Just some of the many photos I got of Scotsman whilst at Didcot, including a drivers eye view and a look down the tender corridor. Although I'm not a huge A3 fan it was good to finally get some nice stills of her! 18/05/2025

"Pretty Pendennis"

My preferred engine out of the two "Rivals", Pendennis looked a treat in the sunshine following her repaint and addition of a new tender. Just something so smart about a Swindon 4-6-0! 18/05/2025

"Teeny We**ie Trojan"

Whilst the big green engines were enjoying the spotlight, a little green engine, Avonside 0-4-0ST Trojan was kept busy giving passenger rides on the branch line. Although I'd seen the little saddle a few times already I made sure she didn't avoid my camera, her looking so smart paired with the Chocolate & Cream Autocoach! 18/05/2025

"Didcot Diesels"

Whilst steam was in the spotlight, three devious diesels were left lurking in the shed, namely GWR Railcar No.22, Class 14 D9516 and Class 52 'Western' D1023 Western Fusilier, all three stood shoulder to shoulder waiting for their time in sunshine! 18/05/2025

"Centenary Chief"

Having last visited exactly a year ago, I would once again enjoy a day down on the Kent coast at the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, who for the weekend were running their intensive Pink timetable, with five locomotives operating an every 45 minutes service.

As expected for a bank holiday the weather was a bit miserable, with grey skies and occasional drizzle for most of the day, the sun making a brief appearance in the late afternoon.

The first loco I'd travel behind would be No.2 Northern Chief, who along with No.1 would be celebrating their centenary, having been built by Davey Paxman in Colchester some 100 years ago! Still looking smart for her age, No.2 simmers at Dungeness ready to depart with the first service of the day. So nice to be back! 24/05/2025

"Sunny Slim Jim"

After a steam Saturday it was a change of traction for Sunday with a visit to the Mid Norfolk Railway for their Spring Diesel Gala, having enjoyed my visit last year and with the locos on offer it was too good to miss!

This years line up would feature the regular home fleet of 33202,47580 and 47596 alongside 4 rather nice guests, namely Class 20s 20205 & 20007 from the Romic Group and 37800 & 37501 from Rail Operations Group, so plenty of variety for the weekend!

I chose to not travel and just enjoy the comings and goings at Dereham, managing to get some decent stills and enjoy a bit of departure thrash too! A cracking day had for sure!

In the rare appearance of the sun, Class 33/2 33202 Dennis G Robinson idles away with the MK1 set ready to depart with her first trip of the day, looking rather smart following a recent repaint! 25/05/2025

"Two for the Price of One"

Coupled together for the whole weekend, just how 20s should always be, BR Blue 20205 and BR Green 20007 loiter around Dereham with the MK3 set whilst waiting for their first service of day, these two are currently for sale if you fancy owning a chopper or two! 25/05/2025
