Look at this beauty! We are so lucky to announce a special guest appearance from Mim at the studio!

Mim will be offering her lovely intuitive and knowledgeable guidance this Friday for a 9-10am yoga flow.

Mim has been teaching and practicing yoga for over 25 years and has been a consistent asset to the community , whether it’s through her joyful spirit, creative yoga flows, sharing her joy of figure skating, and much much more. She has a way of spreading joy wherever she goes. We’re so happy to have Mim offering her gift at the studio! Please join her this Friday!

Namaste North Country Yoga community!

Here two announce 2 things !

First being - we are rebranding! The studio will soon take on its new name - High Peaks Yoga Shala. Shala is a Sanskrit word for “home” or “abode.” May the studio be a place that feels like home away from home for us all. Please stay tuned in as we launch this new phase of the studio to make sure you can stay informed on our upcoming classes/series/workshops, etc and know that it is still us :)

Secondly - for small business Saturday we will be hosting a sweet evening for those who are staying in the area for the holidays!

Come for both events or just one. VinYin is a combination of Vinyasa and Yin yoga - we will begin in this accessible, all-levels vinyasa class by warming and strengthening the body to support circulation, release toxins, and quiet the mind, and end in restorative postures that aid in releasing stress, tension, and calming the nervous system.
Join us for Kirtan - a call-and-response singing practice where we will sing mantras and songs for inner peace and world peace. After there will be a nourishing, seasonal Ayurvedic meal that warms the body and soul. A truly nourishing evening for mind, body, and heart. Invite your family and friends !

Saturday, November 25th

Join Brooks tomorrow, Friday, and the Wednesday following Thanksgiving for warm vinyasa!

Friday is 9-10am.

Brooks Fraser's beloved journey with yoga began twenty years ago at The Yoga Room in Astoria, Queens with Hot Yoga and Vinyasa. What she discovered there was that movement through asana and connecting to the breath was the gateway to mind-expanding and life-changing lessons. She completed her first teacher training there in 2006 in Hot Core Power Yoga. Instructor Wesley Collier was a true inspiration and motivator. Brooks has been so fortunate to practice at incredible New York City studios over the years, namely Laughing Lotus and Yogamaya (where owner/teacher Bryn Chrisman was a huge influence). In 2017, she began attending regular classes at the Kadampa Meditation Center in Manhattan under the direction of Resident Teacher/National Spiritual Director, Kadam Morten. Brooks completed her 200 Hour Certification in Hatha Yoga and Ayurveda with Gretchen Mills at High Peaks Yoga and Ayurveda in Lake Placid in early 2023 with a full heart.

Brooks looks forward to continuing on this path of intention as she leads classes with the belief that yoga and meditation is for everybody and every body. She is dedicated to expanding her knowledge of yoga, meditation, breathwork, mindfulness and spirituality and looks forward to sharing that with the community. She has a deep awareness that a meaningful connection to nature is also an important part of this journey and looks for creative ways to incorporate that in both her practice and teaching. As a runner, Brooks has completed countless races between 5k and ten miles, 14 half marathons and the New York City Marathon twice. She knows firsthand how integral yoga asana is as a companion to other physical activities.

Meet Jill! she/her

Jill began her yoga journey in 2011 as a reprieve from the dark NY winters. After moving to Colorado in 2012 she experimented with different styles of yoga and learned from a variety of teachers. In 2019 Jill completed her 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher training in Albany, NY while also growing a human baby. This process imprinted that yoga is for all bodies and also illuminated the mental health benefits of yoga.
Jill puts the fun in fundamentals and encourages everyone to employ a beginner’s mind. Each class is centered around the integrity of breath and connecting with your physical and mental strength. She incorporates dynamic movements and emphasizes the synchronization of breath and movement. Jill’s training is in Hatha yoga which typically indicates a slow strong practice but through years of dabbling has picked up pieces from other traditions as well.
Jill prioritizes being curious in all aspects of life including her yoga practice. When she’s not doing yoga she works to mitigate climate change through her job at a local non-profit, supports her husband’s chainsaw carving business, and chases around her two wild children.

One of the most effective ways to ground our energy and calm the nervous system is through sound. We all have had the experience of listening to music and having it shift our energy in a profound way. The voice is a direct doorway to the soul, to the deepest and most whole place within and has the power to bring us back to ourselves in a profound way. Give yourself the gift of deep relaxation with new weekly sound healing sessions and restorative yoga with Sarah. We will relax in restorative yoga postures and receive intuitively channeled vocals, mantra, and the vibration of various sound healing instruments to bring us deeply into the present moment, restore our inner connection, and take us on a journey within.

Starting to announce exciting upcoming October events…first being this change to WEEKLY kirtans at the studio starting Sunday, October 8th!

Kirtan is a practice that, when done consistently, especially in the shared heart space of sangha (community), has the power to unite us, strengthen us, connect us during the isolation the winter months inevitably cause. The slowing down of fall and winter invites the medicine of community, and the cold days give the gift of time to create together, to integrate and process the beauty and expansion the summer months brought.

Pop up event!

We’re so excited to continue this popular collaboration between Gretchen Mills and Sarah Chien at the studio this coming Monday evening. Gretchen will lead a yoga class of restorative poses and gentle breathing techniques, accompanied by Sarah offering live, intuitively created music on the harmonium and guitar with heart centered vocals. This practice will soothe and guide participants into an experience of deep relaxation beyond the activity of the mind and into a deep deep state of ease and contenment.

Nothing like an Adirondack sunset spent with a dear friend to awaken you again to the magnificence and mystery of this existence.

Why are we here? What it is we are truly here to experience in this life, if not beauty? If not our true potential? If not serenity?

In the soft glow of the setting sun I remember an ancient prayer of gratitude, the Gayatri mantra.

A mantra is a powerful energetic code that when repeated with sincerity and attention, has the potential to illuminate our consciousness, calm our minds, cultivate deep focus and peace. Each mantra in the ancient and powerful language of Sanskrit holds a deep truth about reality and gives us the opportunity to experience this truth from within.

Bhargo devasya dhimahi
Dhiyoyonah prachodayat

May the pure divine light illuminate all realms of our being. Please expel any darkness from our hearts and bestow upon us true knowledge.

Hey y’all! Next weekend we’ve got lovely Ashera, a local healer, yoga teacher, and playful soul sharing her love and passion for Acro Yoga in this fun, playful, community building acro-yoga workshop.

Acro Yoga is a partner yoga practice that ties together Thai massage, yoga, and acrobatics to build trust, strength, and just plain old fun. You don’t have to have any experience to engage in this practice - all levels are welcome. You may engage with the practice within your comfort level while learning the basics, trying something new, and maybe even seeing what you’re capable of ! Bring your own partner or come alone !

Pop up collaboration between teachers Sarah and Gretchen THIS MONDAY at the New Vida Preserve in Jay!

Come one come all for a sweet night of meditative music and restorative yoga with new HPYA owner Sarah Chien and Gretchen Mills at the new Wellness Center . As teachers we partner forces and intentions to cultivate an environment that encourages deep connection with self and a deeply relaxing experience for your body, nervous system, and mind through the sharing of mantra and restorative yoga poses. We would love to have you relax with us in this new space at New Vida. Reserve your spot on our website www.highpeaksyogaschool.com. We will be offering future Live music and restorative classes both at HPYA and the New Vida Preserve as part of this continued collaboration. If there are certain days you’d like to see this collaboration happen, drop it in the chat below and stay tuned in for the location of the next one !
