Below are the statewide virtual American Sign Language (ASL) opportunities provided by the WVDE Technical Assistance Center: WV Outreach Center for the Deaf and the Blind. These classes are available at no cost to any individual that would like to participate.


All ASL classes begin the first week of September using the Microsoft Teams Platform. Please see the attachment for the schedule.

Statewide American Sign Language (ASL) Class Schedule


All learning opportunities are offered at no cost to the participant by the WVOCDB. Each class offered is virtual, using the Microsoft TEAMS platform, simply click on the link provided at the selected time to participate.


Introductory ASL Class

Questions: Will there be recorded video if you can't make a class? Some classes are recorded if all participants agree to allow us to record. The links can be requested to any recorded class by emailing our instructor Dr. Ressie Phillips at ressie.phillips@k12.wv.us

How long are the classes (weeks)? Pre-registration required? Our classes last 8 to 10 weeks throughout the school year and we do not offer summer classes as many DHH teachers offer them for a fee in the summer to make extra money and we do not want to compete with their lively hood. How long is each class (1 - 2 hours)? Each class is 1 hour long. 45/50 minutes of direct instruction and the last 10/15 minutes to answer any questions.

What is Microsoft Teams & does it work on Mac? Microsoft Teams is the preferred platform used by the WVDE. It is a messaging app for any organization—a workspace for real-time collaboration and communication, meetings, file and app sharing, and even the occasional emoji! What time zone? Our WVDE TAC: WV Outreach Center for the Deaf and the Blind is located in WV and we are in the Eastern Time Zone.

Hello I would like to join your advanced ASL class on Thursday at 4. Do I need to register? No registration is required simply download Microsoft Teams and click our link we provided on the class you wish to join.
