• Gun ownership (especially handguns): 8× higher risk of su***de by firearm (men)

• 90% who survive a nonfatal su***de attempt do not go on to die by su***de

• ~90% of su***de attempts with a firearm are fatal

• Treatment can reduce su***de risk (studies vary)

• Means restriction (e.g., limiting firearm access) reduces su***de by ~30–50%, potentially twice as effective as treatment-based approaches

⚠️ At its core: Su***de intensity is often fleeting—and making lethal means temporarily inaccessible saves lives.

September is Su***de Prevention month and I will be walking with my daughter Megan Schulz and her Sigma Kappa sorority sisters as we honor her dear friend, Ashley. I take care of several families who have had a loved one die by su***de and the devastation it leaves behind is awful. Please consider supporting a cause near and dear to me and Megan.
