Who are you, really?
In seasons of winter—both literal and figurative—it can feel like the magic has gone quiet, leaving us in the rhythm of the ordinary.
The essence of a path is that sometimes you can’t see far ahead. You take one step at a time, longing for a vista or a waterfall to appear, only to find yourself standing in the void. You wonder who you are in the midst of the unknown.
Recently, I worked with a woman who had received a terminal diagnosis. She wasn’t a yogi and didn’t know what to expect from a session, but she was open. I guided her gently—through movement, breath, and rest—into the present moment.
At the end of our first session, her eyes glowed. “I know what you mean by the Soul,” she said.
Months later, lying on the couch, she took my hand with childlike joy and said, “My body is only dying. My spirit doesn’t die.”
This is what we all long for—to be held in the truth of who we are, unjudged, unhurried, and unafraid. Even as the body falters, the essence of us remains intact, adventurous, curious, and free.
Transitions are fertile ground for transformation, no matter how void-like they may seem. Loss is never only loss. The void, too, is full.
These are the times to return to your core practices. What grounds you? What sustains you?
