Dr. Sabesan’s clinical practice is focused on shoulder, elbow and sports medicine problems, and her primary interest is in the management of complex shoulder problems in joint replacement, rotator cuff tears, and revision shoulder surgeries. She has extensive clinical and translational science research experience focusing on innovative treatments for shoulder problems, osteoporosis and the study o

f shoulder biomechanics and prosthetic design. Dr. Sabesan serves on the board of Michigan Orthopedic Society and lectures both nationally and internationally in her area of expertise.

Excited to share our latest research published in the Journal of Surgical Education.

Can virtual reality improve how future surgeons are trained? Our study shows that even a single VR simulation session can significantly boost medical students’ confidence and surgical knowledge.

From better understanding of procedures to improved imaging skills, over 90% of students found this approach helpful and felt more prepared for real surgical experiences.

Our latest research has been published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty.

In this systematic review, our team examined how often reverse shoulder arthroplasty studies report outcomes by s*x. Despite reviewing more than 345,000 patients, only a small percentage of studies analyzed results separately for men and women.

Understanding s*x-specific outcomes is an important step toward more personalized and equitable care in shoulder surgery. I’m proud of the team for highlighting this important gap in the literature and helping move the field forward.
