Today, our residents rolled up their sleeves and gave back in a big way—volunteering at Bernie's Book Bank a Chicago-area nonprofit dedicated to getting books into the hands of children who need them most. 📚

In just one afternoon, our team helped sort, label, and pack over 2,000 books! As Elaine put it best, “It’s good to know these books will soon be sparking children’s imagination and creativity—and we played an important role in the process.” 💬✨

We’re proud to support causes that promote literacy, learning, and community.

Our residents are putting their creativity to work as we prepare for this year’s national Artbrellas challenge. Last year, we made it all the way to the final round—and we’re aiming even higher this time!

Though we’re just getting started, this group is already bringing joy, harmony, and plenty of smiles as we rehearse patriotic favorites for our Musical Mixology Fourth of July celebration.

One of the most meaningful programs we’ve ever done at Cedar Lake is our partnership with JCC Chicago and the Jacob Duman Early Learning Center.

Twice a month, our residents spend time with the littlest learners—sharing hugs, stories, and unforgettable moments across generations. 💛

These relationships are pure magic, and we can't wait to return in the fall.

Today marked the 50th anniversary of the classic film "Jaws." We celebrated by showing the movie, and having a Jaws-themed Musical Mixology with seafood appetizers, nautical décor and plenty of water inspired songs to sing along to. Our poster art club designed a great Jaws poster to add to the festivities. We're gonna need a bigger boat!

How does your garden grow? 🪴 With a lot of Teamwork and tender loving care! Our Cedar Lake "Old Thymers Garden Club is off to a fantastic start. From seeding, planting and setting up this year's garden, to learning new approaches and techniques from Kyra, our master gardener guru, we have flourishing gardens in our Assisted Living and Memory Care communities.

Kyra is the daughter of a former resident and recently earned master gardener status. She volunteers her time and experience to make our Garden Club program more enriching than ever before. Vegetables, herbs, spices and flowers are looking great already.
