That's right, the study of veins and blood vessels dates all the way back to ancient Egypt!

Over 3,000 years ago, Egyptian physicians recognized the importance of blood flow in the human body, a discovery that predated modern medicine. They believed that "channels" carried not just blood, but also air and life throughout the body.

While their understanding wasn't perfect, it laid the foundation for what we now know as vascular medicine.

The more we learn about our veins, the better we can protect our health today.

While there are factors like genetics that can't be avoided, there are ways to reduce the risk of developing spider veins.

✔ Regular exercise
✔ Maintain a healthy weight
✔ Avoid prolonged sitting or standing
✔ Limit alcohol consumption

These factors are easily within your control, and greatly reduce your risk.

If you do develop spider veins, don't panic. They're not dangerous and don't usually cause symptoms.

According to the Chicago Vein Institute, the prevalence of varicose veins is greater in women (55%) compared to men (45%).

For some, they can be very painful, and for others, there may be no symptoms at all. Varicose veins might also be a sign of a more serious venous issue like deep-vein thrombosis and blood clots.

✔ Numbness or weakness in the legs
✔ Slow-healing wounds on feet or toes
✔ Coldness in one leg or foot

Early detection saves lives. Talk to your doctor if you're at risk, especially if you have diabetes, smoke, or have high blood pressure.

If your legs ache, feel heavy, or throb at the end of the day, compression hose might be your new best friend.

These specially designed socks gently squeeze your legs to improve circulation, reduce swelling, and support your veins. For people with varicose veins, that added pressure helps keep blood from pooling and can relieve discomfort throughout the day.

Your veins work hard every day—especially in your legs—so keeping them healthy is key to avoiding issues like varicose veins, swelling, or even blood clots.

Here are a few simple ways to support better vein health:
✅ Move your body – Walking, cycling, or swimming keeps blood flowing and reduces pressure in your veins.
✅ Elevate your legs – Especially after a long day of standing or sitting. It helps blood return to your heart.
✅ Wear compression socks – They improve circulation and prevent swelling.
✅ Maintain a healthy weight – Less pressure on your veins = better blood flow.
✅ Avoid long periods of sitting or standing – Take breaks to stretch and move around.

Your veins do a lot for you—return the favor with a little daily care. And if you're noticing leg pain, heaviness, or bulging veins, it might be time for a quick, non-invasive checkup.

Not all vein issues are cosmetic. Varicose veins are the result of damaged valves inside the veins in your legs. They often are accompanied by pain and unpleasant symptoms like swelling, redness and itchiness. If left untreated, varicose veins can lead to blood clots and other serious health threats.

Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT) is a minimally invasive treatment that uses laser energy to seal off damaged veins, relieving pain, improving circulation, and helping your legs look and feel better.

💡 Fun fact: Patients are up and walking the same day, with no stitches and barely a mark left behind.

❓ Myth: ""Varicose veins are harmless.""
✅ Fact: Left untreated, they can cause pain, swelling, skin changes—even ulcers.

EVLT is fast, effective, and done right in the office. Ready to find out if it’s right for you? Let’s talk. (863) 577-0269

Not necessarily! While spider veins can be a sign of underlying venous issues, they don't always indicate poor circulation.

Spider veins are small, thin veins that appear close to the surface of the skin—often red, blue, or purple—and are most common on the legs or face. They're caused by increased pressure in the veins and often related to genetics, hormone changes, pregnancy, or long periods of standing.

Poor circulation, on the other hand, typically involves larger veins and arteries and can lead to more serious symptoms like leg pain, swelling, cramping, or numbness.

If you notice spider veins and are concerned about circulation or discomfort in your legs, it’s worth getting evaluated. A quick, non-invasive vascular screening can provide peace of mind—and help catch any underlying issues early.
