I had a conversation with my kids the other day about how I still have to take tests and that no matter how old you are there’s always something to learn. Honestly, I love learning and I’m so thankful to be in a profession that strives to do better and learn more so that we can take the best care of our patients. I learn something new every day and I NEVER have a boring day doing DPC…..Even at 7 am on a Saturday morning 🤓

A new study of 32,000+ women found citrus helps support mood through the gut-brain connection. 🍊🍋

Women with the highest citrus intake had a 22% lower risk of depression compared to those who ate the least. But the researchers didn’t stop there, they also discovered how this works.

Citrus fruits (like oranges and grapefruit) increase the abundance of a key gut microbe called Faecalibacterium prausnitzii. This microbe produces compounds that enhance serotonin and dopamine availability in the gut: two neurotransmitters essential for emotional well-being.

In fact, F. prausnitzii was consistently lower in people with depression, across two independent cohorts. And the more citrus people consumed, the more this microbe thrived.

What you eat feeds the bacteria that shape your thoughts, feelings, and resilience.

The future of Family Medicine is bright! Proud judge this morning as high schoolers gave presentations on why they were interested in family medicine, the road to get there and the physician shortage. My assistant judge ran the timer and held up the 1 minute warning sign 🤓

My grandaddy was one of the last surviving WW2 veterans at the time of this interview. In spite of the nightmares he endured for the remainder of his life, he was kind, loved to laugh and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Thankful for his legacy and sacrifice. Honoring him and all veterans today and everyday. Freedom isn’t free.
