Baby Body Basics #7 👶

“Colic” is a label many parents hear when their baby is crying a lot.

But it doesn’t actually explain what’s going on.

In many cases, there are underlying factors — like discomfort, feeding challenges, or tension — that are worth taking a closer look at.

That doesn’t mean there’s always one simple answer.
But it also doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do.

✨ Sometimes, small changes and the right kind of support can make a meaningful difference.

Have you ever been told your baby has colic?
You can share below or reach out — I'm always here to listen 🤍

Baby Body Basics #5 👶

Feeding challenges don’t always start at the mouth.

Sometimes it’s about how your baby is able to move, settle, and coordinate during a feed.

Things like tension, a side preference, or restrictions in the body can make feeding feel harder than it needs to be.

That’s also why a team approach can be so helpful.

A lactation specialist looks closely at feeding itself — latch, positioning, and efficiency — while a chiropractor assesses how your baby’s body is moving and where tension might be getting in the way.

I often work alongside Grow Lactation Services to support babies from both angles.

Have you been navigating feeding challenges?

Oral ties (like tongue, lip, or cheek ties) are often thought of as just a feeding issue…

…but they can also affect how your baby’s whole body moves and feels.

When movement in the mouth is restricted, babies may compensate by creating tension in other areas , especially the neck, shoulders, and hips.

This can sometimes show up as:

• feeding challenges
• reflux, gas, or constipation
• body tension
• a preference for one side

✨ The encouraging part: there are ways to support both feeding and movement, gently and effectively.

Have you been told your baby might have a tongue or lip tie?
Or noticed any of these signs?

You can share below or send me a message. I'm always happy to help 🤍

📣 Important Update: New Appointment Structure & Pricing 📣

With the recent move to SWANN and addition of Elli to the team, I now get to spend our time together just being the doctor.

Starting May 1, 2026, I’ll be updating my appointment structure and pricing to better reflect the time and attention each session requires.

This will keep visits running smoothly without sacrificing support for families.

I’m so incredibly grateful for each of you—especially those who’ve been with me since I first opened my doors in 2022. Your trust and support have helped this little practice grow into something truly special. 💛

Baby Body Basics #3 👶

Last week, we talked about torticollis — when babies develop a preference for turning their head to one side.

This week, we’re building on that.

Flat spots on a baby’s head often develop when that same side preference leads to repeated pressure in one area.

Because babies’ skulls are still soft, they can gradually change shape over time.

Besides a baby preferring one side, flat spots can also be connected to:

• limited neck movement
• positioning habits
• tension in the body — including from oral ties

✨ The encouraging part: when noticed early, there are simple ways to support more balanced movement and development.

Small changes — along with gentle, targeted support — can make a big difference.

Baby Body Basics #2 👶

A baby who always looks to one side is something that many parents don't even know to look for.

In many cases, this comes down to tightness in the neck muscles, also known as torticollis.

This can develop from:

• positioning in the womb
• the birth process
• early positioning after birth

While it might seem small, a strong preference for one side can sometimes lead to:

• flat spots on the head
• feeding challenges
• uneven movement

✨ The good news: when noticed early, this is very treatable, and babies respond incredibly well to gentle support.

In my office, I focus on assessing how your baby moves and supporting their body with safe, gentle techniques designed specifically for infants.

Introducing a new series: Baby Body Basics 👶

Your baby’s body is doing a lot of work in the first months of life.

From feeding and sleeping to learning how to move and explore the world, so much of early development starts with how a baby’s body functions.

But many parents are surprised to learn that birth itself can place significant physical stress on a baby’s body, sometimes creating small areas of tension or restriction.

These can occasionally show up as things like:

• a preference to turn the head one direction
• feeding challenges
• reflux or fussiness
• flat spots on the head

In this new series, Baby Body Basics, I’ll break down common questions about infant movement, development, and body mechanics — in simple, easy-to-understand posts.

My goal is to help parents better understand what’s normal, what to watch for, and how gentle chiropractic care may support healthy development.

Follow along for upcoming posts on:

• torticollis
• flat spots
• feeding and neck tension
• sleep and the nervous system
• what pediatric chiropractic adjustments actually look like

Because when parents understand their baby’s body, they feel more confident supporting their little one. 💛
