Not new at all.

Until recently, most women were unaware of the issue of breast density. Two things have happened in recent years to create greater awareness of this issue. First, advances in technology have made supplemental screening practical and effective. Second, the tireless work of breast density advocates and their effort to pass legislation in every state to require that women be informed of their breast density status.

In fact, Florida’s breast density law took effect in July, 2018.

If an abnormality is detected in a breast screening, a biopsy might be needed to gather a sample for further testing.

A breast biopsy only needs a small sample, making it much less invasive and less uncomfortable.

Mammography overall is used to aid in the diagnosis of breast cancer and plays a central role in early detection.

3D mammography is a newer technology that can be more effective than traditional mammograms, especially for women with dense breast tissue, as it uses x-ray to create three-dimensional images of the breast.

We get it—between work, kids, life, and everything in between, checking on your bone health isn't exactly at the top of the to-do list. But if you’re 65 or older (or younger with risk factors), a DEXA scan is one of the easiest things you can do for your future self. It’s quick, painless, and tells us how strong your bones really are.

Think of it like a savings account for your health—you’re investing in staying strong, mobile, and independent for years to come.

Hey friend, if you’ve ever been told you're at higher risk for breast cancer—maybe because of family history, dense breasts, or a genetic mutation—it’s worth asking about a breast MRI. Think of it as the overachiever of breast imaging: it picks up on things that even mammograms and ultrasounds can miss. It's not for everyone, but if it is for you, it could be life-changing. If you're not sure where you fall, let’s talk through it.

We're here to make sure you have the clearest picture possible.

A breast MRI offers the most sensitive breast imaging available, often used for women at high risk of breast cancer or those with complex cases. It provides powerful detail, detecting abnormalities that may not appear on a mammogram or ultrasound. If you have a strong family history, a genetic mutation (like BRCA), or dense breast tissue, your doctor may recommend this advanced screening tool.

When it comes to breast cancer detection, clarity matters. A 3D mammogram (also known as digital breast tomosynthesis) captures layered images of the breast, giving radiologists a more detailed view and making it easier to spot abnormalities—especially in women with dense breast tissue. It’s fast, accurate, and could detect cancer earlier than traditional 2D mammograms.

When something suspicious is found in a scan, a breast biopsy provides answers. Using minimally invasive techniques—like ultrasound or stereotactic guidance—we can precisely target and sample tissue for diagnosis, often in under an hour.

And don't forget your bones! A DEXA scan is the gold standard for measuring bone density and assessing fracture risk. It’s quick, painless, and recommended for women 65+ or earlier if you're at risk for osteoporosis.

If you have dense breast tissue, a breast ultrasound or Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) can be a powerful complement to your mammogram. These safe, radiation-free scans offer a closer look at suspicious areas and improve cancer detection in women whose mammograms may be less clear. ABUS is especially helpful for screening dense breasts and takes just about 15 minutes.
