As with your yoga practice, you know mindfulness is an intentional focus on your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in the present moment. Mindfulness helps you learn to become more aware of, rather than reacting to, your situation and choices. Mindful eating focuses on your eating experiences, body related sensations, thoughts, and feelings about food with heightened awareness and without judgment. The goal of mindful eating is to promote a more enjoyable meal experience, understanding of your eating environment and your personal internal cues. Mindful eating helps you practice gratitude for food and your body which improves your daily eating experiences. It also helps you make choices that will be satisfying and nourishing to your body which helps improve your body image, self esteem, and relationship with different foods.
Mindful eating is NOT a weight loss diet or intended to replace diet treatments for conditions such as eating disorders, Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Hypertension, or any other therapeutic diet that needs to be followed to ensure your health. However, it can be an exceptional tool to utilize in conjunction with practicing a sustainable weight loss program or following a specific therapeutic diet.
