🎨💌 International Creativity Month 💌🎨 January is International Creativity Month, and at Senior Helpers of Polk County, we’re celebrating creativity with purpose! One of our favorite creative projects is the “Dear Senior, Valentine’s” card collection, where handmade cards turn into meaningful moments of connection for local seniors. Every drawing, kind word, sticker, and heartfelt message helps remind seniors that they are loved, valued, and remembered. Creativity has the power to spark joy, reduce loneliness, and spread love—one card at a time. ❤️

💌 Dear Senior, Valentine’s Card Drive – We Need You! 💌

Last year, our Polk County community shared over 4,000 handmade Valentine’s cards with seniors who might otherwise go without a smile, a hug, or a reminder that they are loved. ❤️ This year, we’re hoping to do it again—and we can’t do it without you.

Schools, churches, families, crafting groups, offices, and individuals—this is a beautiful way to spread love across generations. 💞 A simple hand-made card can mean everything to a senior who is isolated, homebound, or living alone. It says “You matter. You are remembered. You are loved.”

💝 How to help:
• Make Valentine’s cards (handmade is wonderful, simple is perfect!)
• Include cheerful hand-written messages
• Drop off your Valentine's by February 6–7
• Message us here or call to coordinate a drop-off at Senior Helpers

If you’ve ever wondered how such a small act can make a big difference, this is it. Please join us in filling seniors’ hearts this Valentine’s Day. 💕

We are proud to recognize Caridad “Cary” H. as our December Caregiver of the Month. Cary is the definition of dedication—deeply committed to her client's wellbeing and passionate about helping people live with dignity, comfort, and a better quality of life.

Cary’s caregiving journey began at a young age, inspired by personal experience. When there was no one available to care for her grandmother, Cary stepped in and lovingly cared for her, cherishing the honor to care for her elder through end of life. That experience shaped her heart for caregiving and continues to guide the compassionate care she provides every day as a Senior Helper.

When she’s not working, Cary enjoys large gatherings with family and friends, shopping, and decorating—anything that brings people together and creates a warm, joyful environment. Fun fact: people are often surprised to learn that Cary is also a dental hygienist!

Her advice to future caregivers says it all: “Love what you do or find something else. You must love what you do.”

Thank you, Cary, for the heart, commitment, and excellence you bring to Senior Helpers of Polk County. We are so grateful to have you on our team and to celebrate you this month!
