In this case from our Surgery Case Series, a patient had suffered unrelenting severe pain and progressive weakness for over two years.

During that time, the patient sought care at multiple facilities and underwent several spinal MRIs — all interpreted as “normal,” leaving the true cause of the symptoms unknown.

When the patient came to Spine Institute of Central Florida, a world leader in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery, we recognized the need for proper imaging.

After challenging insurance barriers, Spine Institute of Central Florida's Advanced Imaging Facility was able to complete a repeat MRI, which revealed a large intradural extramedullary arachnoid cyst compressing the spinal cord and nerves.

With precise diagnosis and ongoing individualized treatment, we are relieving pain and restoring function as part of the patient’s active management plan.

High-risk and complex spinal conditions like this are treated regularly at Spine Institute of Central Florida, where we specialize in advanced spinal care and returning patients to optimal function.

In this case from our Surgery Case Series, Dr. Okafor treated a patient with very severe, progressive spinal scoliosis—causing unbearable pain, difficulty breathing, and emotional distress.
After years of bracing, therapy, and medications, the patient’s rigid, multiplanar deformity continued to worsen, compressing nerves and limiting function.

Dr. Okafor performed complex spinal reconstruction and deformity correction—realigning and stabilizing the spine. Post-surgery, pain was reduced, function improved, and alignment restored.

High-risk cases like this are treated regularly at Spine Institute of Central Florida, where our team specializes in advanced spinal care and restoring patient function.

In this first case from our Surgery Case Series, we highlight a patient suffering from very severe spinal cord compression and paresis—a condition that had progressed to near quadriplegia.

After years of pain, weakness, and loss of function, the patient came to Spine Institute of Central Florida in severe distress.

Under the care of Dr. Okafor, advanced surgical decompression was performed—restoring space around the spinal cord and relieving the crushing pressure.

Post-surgery, the patient regained the ability to use their hands and walk again.

Complex and very high risk spinal cord compression cases like this are treated regularly at the Spine Institute of Central Florida, where our team specializes in restoring function and improving quality of life.
