📚 Lake County Library Joins “One Book, One Coast” Community Reading Program
The Lake County Library will join more than 140 libraries across California, Oregon, and Washington this spring for One Book, One Coast, the largest community reading program on the West Coast. From late March through May, readers will come together to discuss They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, a powerful graphic memoir about his childhood experience in U.S. incarceration camps during World War II.
đź“– Copies of the book will be available to borrow starting March 28 at Lake County Library locations.

TOPIC: A reading and discussion of They Called Us Enemy, George Takei’s graphic memoir about his childhood incarceration in U.S. camps during World War II.

The event will also explore records found related to Japanese people who lived in Lake County prior and up to the time period of Mr. Takiei's memoir, with emphasis on the story of one Lake County resident who was detained and removed during that time.

This event is in conjunction with the County Library's participation in the One Book, One Coast program. a shared community reading program that celebrates literacy, learning, community, and civil discourse. The Lake County Library will join more than 140 libraries across California, Oregon, and Washington this spring for the largest book club on the West Coast, with themed events taking place from late March through May 2026. The Lake County Genealogical Society is pleased to participate.
