NUTRITION FACT CHECK: SEED OILS
Current scientific literature supports incorporating seed oils into a well-rounded diet, particularly as an alternative to saturated fat. Although some debates persist around their potential inflammatory or oxidative effects, the majority of peer-reviewed studies do not support these concerns when seed oils are consumed in typical dietary amounts. Health authorities continue to recommend seed oils over animal fats due to their potential to lower cardiovascular risk. Like all dietary fats, seed oils are best used in moderation and as part of a diet that emphasizes whole foods - such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins - while limiting highly processed products.

The Lake Health District would like to officially welcome Nurse Practitioner Maja Lee to our team and community. Maja moved to Lakeview from Eureka, Nevada with her dog Mickey and will be working as a full-time primary care provider at the Lake Health Clinic.
Maja is an avid traveler and has visited many countries around the world. She has been hiking in the Amazon, eaten dinner suspended in the sky in Greece, and visited the Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt. She’s also a car enthusiast and recalls going to car shows as a young girl. Her dream car is a 1982 Monte Carlo SS.
When asked why she became a Nurse Practitioner, Maja laughed and admitted that it was divine intervention. Despite multiple people encouraging her to go into the field, she was not interested in nursing initially and dabbled in various majors including accounting, radiology and biology before ultimately getting her RN license. She spent many years working in ICUs and case management before becoming an NP and feels that her life always brought her back to nursing even when she was considering other fields.
Maja was drawn to Lakeview for the peace of mind that comes with small-town living and the proximity to her family who reside in the state. She’s happy to be closer to people and within traveling distance of larger communities after living in remote Nevada for several years. You might see her around town with Mickey for their evening walks; he’s enjoying his new home aside from the town deer that frequently visit his back yard.
Welcome, Maja, we are thrilled to have you on board!

Lake County Hazard Mitigation Plan Survey (Please use QR code or go to: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=Mmk_qnz6tEegzqWYytFhz7h_pM0oNydCvVlVkP-TiDRUMFQyOFIwVFFWSlVIVkhESE5MMTZUT1NYUC4u&origin=QRCode to complete the survey)

Lake County is in the process of updating their Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan (NHMP). The NHMP looks to identify local risks from natural hazards, the exposure vulnerable communities and infrastructure have to those risks and devise actionable mitigation strategies to reduce risk.

This community survey is part of the engagement process informing the update of the NHMP. An NHMP is required to be updated every five years by FEMA to receive public assistance during a disaster declaration and to receive funding from FEMA grants. The NHMP update will include a risk assessment of regional natural hazards and mitigation strategies to reduce risk from people, property, and local infrastructure when disasters do inevitably occur.

This survey will be available from June 21, 2025, to September 21, 2025. For questions, to receive more information about the update, or to be involved in the update process, please email Jesse Noone, Natural Hazards Mitigation Planner at DLCD, jesse.noone@dlcd.oregon.gov.
