Today is Purple Heart Day, a day to salute and honor the courageous men and women who have been wounded or killed in action while serving in the U.S. military. Let us all take a moment to acknowledge the sacrifices made by these service members.

We are counting down the National winners of our three art contests starting on Friday, August 1. Each day from August 1-August 8, we will share three National award winning works from the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest, 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest and Illustrating America, and on August 9 we will conclude with the National first-place winners of both the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest and 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest.

As always, we remind visitors to our Facebook and Instagram pages to remember that these works of art were created by talented students in grades K-12. While we welcome positive feedback and post sharing, we reserve the right to delete any comments that are political/partisan or unkind. Hate speech will not be tolerated.

Meet Bjorn — our sweet, gentle yellow Lab who has officially earned the title of Professional Couch Potato. 🛋️💤 While he's training to become a life-changing service dog, this mellow guy is looking for a weekend foster home to crash at!

If your idea of a perfect weekend includes low-key snuggles, long naps, and a chill buddy by your side — Bjorn is your guy.

👉 Weekend fosters pick up their dog on Friday afternoon and return them Sunday evening or Monday morning. It’s the perfect way to make a BIG impact with a small time commitment!

🐾 WEEKEND FOSTER NEEDED FOR BEAU 🐾

Beau is a 9-month-old golden retriever in need of a weekend foster home. He’s full of energy, eager to learn, and working hard to become a future service dog for a veteran in need.

🟡 About Beau
• High-energy and best suited for an active household
• Great with kids and cats (he lived with both in his puppy foster home)
• Fully potty trained and crate trained
• Knows “sit,” “down,” “touch,” and is working on “stay”
• Like many young dogs, he’s still a chewer and tends to put everything in his mouth
• Loves playing catch—it's truly his favorite thing in the world!

📆 Weekend Foster Commitment
Fostering begins Friday and ends Sunday evening. We provide all supplies—food, crate, leash, support—you provide a safe and structured environment where Beau can practice being a well-mannered companion.

This fun-loving guy is learning how to become a life-changing service dog for a veteran — and while he’s mastering his skills during the week, he needs a weekend buddy (that’s you!) to share some off-duty fun, cuddles, and structure.

🗓️ Weekend fosters pick up on Friday afternoon and return him on Sunday evening or Monday morning — just enough time for belly rubs, fetch marathons, and maybe a nap or two. 😴🎾

By opening your home for just a couple days a week, you’re doing something extraordinary: helping shape a dog who will one day support and empower a veteran in need.

I’m happy to share that our Lakeville VFW Post 210 now have flag disposal boxes located at both ACE Hardware locations and Fleet Farm, right here in Lakeville - ensuring they will be retired in a dignified manner. 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate and honor America, along with the service and sacrifice of those who keep the promise of our nation alive. Let every day remind us of the bravery and perseverance of our nation, especially on Independence Day!

Please take a moment to honor our veterans and all who are still serving so we can enjoy the independence our founding fathers worked so hard to establish.

We can’t say enough good about the Believet, Canine Service Partners and all they do for our veterans! It was an honor to visit their facility today and present them with a $1,000 donation.

🎉 A huge thank you to Lakeville Auxiliary to Lakeville VFW Post 210 for their generous support!

In May, they held a bingo fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting Believet, and today we had the pleasure of welcoming them to our facility for a tour.

We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to our mission and their support of veterans and service dogs. 💙🐾

Thanks to Lakeville VFW Post 210, Lakeville Auxiliary to Lakeville VFW Post 210, and American Legion Post 44 for another meaningful Memorial Day Ceremony. Honored to stand with Mayor Luke Hellier, Senator Zach Duckworth and Representative Jeff Witte to honor the fallen and celebrate the country - and the freedoms - they defended.
