A DAY IS NOT LOST

A day is not lost,
if you failed to tick off a list,
or a diet was broken.

A day is only lost
if you forgot to say something kind
to yourself, or another.

If you forgot to pause and search
for a tiny spark of beauty,
glimmering like gold in the mud.

A day is only lost if you forgot that life,
even in the worst of times, is still a gift.

A gift you so very much deserve to live through
and not just survive.

Science shows that affection can do far more than lift your mood — it can literally reshape your biology. Through a process called epigenetics, acts like cuddling, hugging, or simply feeling loved can activate repair genes that promote healing and silence those linked to chronic diseases and inflammation.

When you connect emotionally, your body releases oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine, the “feel-good” chemicals that lower cortisol (the stress hormone) and support cellular repair. Over time, this can reduce anxiety, boost immunity, and even slow down aging at the genetic level.

So yes — love doesn’t just touch your heart; it rewrites the code of your health.

Our brains are hard wired for negativity on purpose because at one time fear kept us alive. 🏃🏼🏃🏼Let’s all practice a pause and choose kindness instead.

Your brain clings to pain but lets go of praise too fast.

Your brain is built for survival, not for happiness. That is why it remembers hurtful words far longer than kind ones. Neuroscientists have found that negative experiences like insults or rejection activate the brain’s threat centers much more strongly than positive ones. When someone says something that hurts you, the amygdala, your emotional alarm system, stores that memory deeply, sometimes for decades. Compliments, on the other hand, only light up short-term reward circuits that fade within weeks unless repeated.

This pattern is called the negativity bias. It is an ancient survival mechanism that helped early humans remember danger and avoid harm. But in today’s world, it often causes emotional pain to echo for years while kindness slips away unnoticed. The brain pays more attention to pain because it sees it as a lesson for protection.

The good news is that you can change how your brain responds. By practicing gratitude, mindfulness, and repeating positive affirmations, you can strengthen the neural pathways that hold onto joy instead of fear. Over time, this training helps your brain remember kindness as clearly as it remembers pain.

So when someone gives you a compliment, pause for a moment and take it in. Let your mind hold onto the warmth. You deserve to remember the good just as much as the bad.
