Dear Friends of MFR of West Florida,

The healing partnerships we’ve created together over the last 15 years have been some of the most treasured privileges I have been entrusted with in life.

Through and with you, I have witnessed over and again deep hope, courage, tenacity, self compassion, and healing. I have watched you put in the hard work of creating change so that you can live a life of greater alignment not only in body but also in soul.

Our shared insight along the way is pure treasure to me. I am a very grateful student of your heart and courage!

Now, it is time for me to dive deeper into my own healing journey, and to see what new doors will open in my life when I am tending to myself with authenticity.

In order to do so, I must say goodbye to our beautiful clinic here in Lakewood Ranch, and to my roles as therapist, administrator, and owner in MFR practice.

However, this will not leave you without your MFR home!

I’m happy to share with you that Laci, Rhonda, Amy, and Carrie are opening their own practice, Sunshine State Myofascial Release. Just as we have done here, they will be offering regular sessions, intensive treatment scheduling, and Immersions with love, skill and respect for your needs and goals.

While this has been a difficult decision for me, it has been made so much easier by their continued commitment to all of you, our beloved clientele. I wholeheartedly look forward to cheering them on! As you already know, you are in excellent hands.

Thank you for the many ways in which you have been supportive of me these past two and a half years. The outpouring of your love and care has been an indescribable gift to me. I will never forget the precious experiences we've shared, or the generosity with which you have loved me.

With love and gratitude,

Tara

Are you always reaching for the “right” way to do things in your work with clients?

Sometimes our longing for a particular "right" answer to be true in the therapeutic process can seem a lot like truth, or authentic healing. But often, it’s not. And our need to hold onto a particular outcome distorts the richness of the present moment. Discerning when my own needs for healing to "look" a specific way is getting in the way of me being present and learning about the client in front of me is truly an ongoing process. The course of authentic healing can be anything but the straight line that we might long for. Yet allowing for detours, forks in the road and winding pathways can be challenging when our ego is behind the wheel. One of the ways that I have been "unlearning" my view of linear healing is taking time before each session to tune in to my body with a few simple breaths. How do you tune in?

New blog post is up! It's all about the REAL hero of any authentic healing journey. Maybe it's not who you think it is...

Follow the post below to read on ✨

In my experience, therapists rarely set out to create a power hierarchy on purpose. While there are always people who are working from pure ego, that is more rare than simply a misguided philosophy on what it means to be an effective and successful therapist. So how can we begin to shift that dynamic - moving from the all knowing powerful position of “expert” to truly becoming a collaborator on the path to our client’s healing? In my blog this week I’m talking all about the REAL hero of any authentic healing journey ⚡️the link is below to read on ! Therapists - are you hiding your authentic self from your clients? In the post below I explore how our authenticity is a gift we can share in the therapeutic process!

Is there a part of yourself that you're trying to hide from your clients? An aspect of your personality, your humor, your vulnerability, your quirks that you try to separate from your professional work? Often times we can develop a professional "mask" or "persona" that helps us move through our days with expertise and confidence. And though that's natural in many ways and not all bad, if we get to attached to those masks we (and our clients) miss out on the unique beauty of what our whole selves can bring to the therapeutic relationship.

As Pema Chodron so accurately puts it - "our hangups, unfortunately or fortunately, contain our wealth. Our neurosis and our wisdom are made out of the same material. If you throw out your neurosis, you also throw out your wisdom.”

Are you shielding a part of yourself from the world? Is it possible that that part of yourself holds untapped wisdom?

Therapists can be vulnerable too! Reflections on what it means to show up with a willingness to release the role of expert in order to learn and support clients in the most effective and authentic way possible...

I have always felt that embracing vulnerability is the quicket way to ignite my openness to the present moment. So much of our lives are caught up in controlling the here and now, past and future. This protective way of being makes it hard for us to lean into the inherent instability that exists in every single moment of this fragile human experience. And yet, how beautiful (and ironic) that the richness and depth of experience, the fulfillment and connection depends on our very ability, our willingness to open to whats in front of us. This is essential for our work as therapists. When you think about the way presence manifests in your therapeutic work, what comes to mind? I created a helpful tool called The Presence in Practice Survey that I hope will be an interesting resource for therapists to think about how they are showing up in their work with a willingness to be in the here and now. Reflections on perfectionism in the helping professions, and the antidote available to us all in the natural world.

P.S if you haven't seen it yet, please join me over at my new page for evolving therapists Tara Carrington

A lot of the time, highly sensitive people, empaths, those in the "helping profession" can also tend to lean just a little towards the perfectionist side. Do you relate? If you feel attuned to the life around you in such a heightened way - whether its feelings, sounds, smells or intuitive nudges - perfectionism can seem like a way to control the overwhelm, to add structure to what can feel chaotic at times, to protect ourselves. And yet, what we use to protect us can often hold us back from the presence and connection we long for in our lives.

Brene Brown puts it perfectly "Perfectionism is not the same thing as striving for excellence. Perfectionism is not about healthy achievement and growth. Perfectionism is a defensive move. It’s the belief that if we do things perfectly and look perfect, we can minimize or avoid the pain of blame, judgment and shame. Perfectionism is a 20-ton shield we lug around, thinking it will protect us, when in fact it’s the thing that’s preventing us from being seen.” - Brene Brown.

My antidote for this is spending unstructured time in nature. Time to observe the wildness of life, the way it moves outside of the lines, always finding its own messy and beautiful way to harmony.

"May my experience and knowledge do meaningful work here." This is an intention I hold close to my heart. A place to return to when I meet the unknown of a session or find myself eager for answers.

questions to inspire reflection, a moment of pause before you begin the day ⭐️ read more at the post below...

Rather than moving on autopilot through a busy day of routine and responsibility, begin today with a fun question about where you might use new eyes to rediscover a sense of wonder and magic! Can you notice the exact moment someone makes eye contact with you? The difference between the stiff social smile at the beginning of your interaction which turns into a soft bright connected smile after treatment? What about noticing the moment when someone trusts you with seeing the depth of their pain? how people move their hands, or how they blush when you point out their strength, or their softness when talking about a loved one? Slow down. Ask your eyes to see past the routine and go straight to the magic. It infuses every moment, waiting for us ⭐️

Good morning Shiny Soul'd Friends! Are you a therapist? Have you joined me over at my new page Tara Carrington yet? Click below to check out today's post about trust in the therapeutic process, as well as a free resource I am excited to share with therapists longing to deepen their practice

Do you trust that quiet persistent voice within? When do you listen to it? When do you ignore it? Trust is inextricably linked with creativity, and both with authentic healing. In order to show up to our work with clients in a way that honors their unique needs, we must be willing for each healing journey to look and feel differently than the last. Rather than imposing our own views of "shoulds" on our clients, we are being asked to engage in a creative and collaborative relationship that honors self trust in its fullest expression.

Where are you on your journey as a therapist? I have created a Presence in Practice survey to prompt reflection, guide you to a place of inner knowing - a sense of what you have and what you might long your work towards in your practice. You can access it here - https://www.taracarrington.com/

I look forward to hearing from you 💚☀️

For real change to take place, the body needs to learn that the danger has passed and to live in the reality of the present." Bessel Van Der Kolk

05/16/2022

We are treating energy. Either energy flow has been compromised by a structural problem, or an energy problem has created a structural issue. We don’t have to know which it is. All we have to do is help open the structure (the bodily system) so that energy can flow. Now - for fun, and truth, and clarity - read that sentence above again and replace the word “energy” with the word “soul.”

Whether we are working with words, silence, or touch, whether our work is applied technique or intention, we are connecting on the level of SOUL. Our souls are fed by this connection - this privilege - in return. This thought and feeling inspires me when I need a spark to keep going. Have a shiny day✨

We are a collaborative home to Expert Level Myofascial Release Therapists, trained in the John Barnes method. We have created a culture with the highest standards of compassion, and continually strive for deeper levels of therapeutic artistry.

This work is potent in its potential to create deep shifts in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual reconnection and health. We offer hourly sessions, group classes, workshops, and week-long intensive healing sabbaticals, called Immersion.

We are also a home for support of fellow MFR therapists through study groups, internships, and mentorship.

We are honored to partner with others, as we all seek deeper levels of freedom in body and mind. We are devoted to the process of helping others realign their bodies, reconnect to themselves, recognize patterns, reorganize choices, and reclaim the inherent ability to heal. Our passion, and patience, comes from going though this process ourselves. You will feel the depth...the sincerity...the compassion...and, the results.
