Love this quote and the mindset! If you're nervous what you might see at the table this Thanksgiving maybe just print this beautiful post from Up Beet Eaters out to remind you that it's all ok, let them play and explore - there is something to be grateful for there ☺️
Instead of seeing mealtime mess as misbehavior, pivot your attention to the skills you see growing with food:
"Ohhhh, you're feeling lots of squishiness!"
SKILLS GROWING:
- exploring a variety of textures
- communicating needs ("my hands are dirty"/"I need a napkin)
- any food on fingers is more likely to be tasted
"I like how you chewed out eyes and a mouth in your bread."
SKILLS GROWING:
-awareness of anatomical features
-tasting a new food (bread) that could open up many breakfast and lunch options down the road.
-independently approaching a new food with a positive attitude
