The JD Breast Cancer Foundation is one of the only non-profits in Northeast Ohio providing short-term emergency financial assistance to individuals undergoing active treatment for breast cancer. Our assistance helps families keep utilities on, obtain groceries, get gas and even prevent eviction or foreclosure. The foundation was established in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization designed t

o meet the needs of the younger woman diagnosed with breast cancer in Northeast Ohio. JDBCF was named in honor of Jacqueline Dobransky, a vibrant young women who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 at the age of 33 and passed away from her disease one short year later. During her illness, Jacqueline looked unsuccessfully for support groups that might help her to cope with her illness and to help her make decisions unique to those in her age group with this disease. Many members of our Board of Directors have family and friends who are cancer survivors or who have lost their battle and recognize the importance of compassion and support. We are passionate about helping our clients in whatever way possible to pick them up and help them move forward today and tomorrow.

Finishing treatment doesn’t mean the journey is over. Follow-up care plays a critical role in monitoring for recurrence, managing side effects, and supporting long-term health after a breast cancer diagnosis.

Regular check-ups, screenings, and open communication with healthcare providers are key to staying proactive in survivorship. If you or someone you love has completed treatment, encourage them to stay on top of their follow-up plan. Early detection and continued care save lives. 💕

💞 When someone you love is diagnosed with breast cancer, knowing how to help can make all the difference.

Emotional support, practical help, and simply showing up with compassion matter more than you might realize. Offer to run errands, attend appointments, or just listen without judgment. Small gestures—like sending a thoughtful message or cooking a meal—can go a long way.

Support is not about having the perfect words, but about being there when it counts. 💖

While some risk factors for breast cancer (like age and genetics) cannot be changed, others can be managed through lifestyle choices. Maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol intake, staying active, and not smoking can all help reduce your risk.

Knowledge is power, and small changes can make a difference. Stay informed, take care of your health, and encourage those around you to do the same. 💕

Breast cancer does not only affect women. Men can be diagnosed too, but many cases go undetected until later stages because of low awareness and the lack of routine screenings.

By increasing education and encouraging early detection, we can help ensure that no one is overlooked in the fight against breast cancer. If something feels off, do not wait. Talk to your doctor. Awareness saves lives! 💕

Many people think that once breast cancer is treated, it is gone forever. However, breast cancer can return months, years, or even decades later. This is known as a recurrence and can happen in the same breast, nearby lymph nodes, or even spread to other parts of the body.

Regular follow-ups, ongoing screenings, and paying attention to any unusual changes are essential for survivors. Staying proactive about your health can make all the difference!
