Meet Veronica, our outstanding Employee of the Month. Originally from Kenya, Veronica obtained her nursing certificate from Kenya Medical Training College before relocating to the United States in 2018 to pursue greater opportunities. She commenced her career as a CNA at Tacoma General Hospital, where she worked for two years, followed by a one-year tenure at Western State Hospital. Seeking to further develop her skills in resident-centered care, Veronica joined The Oaks at Lakewood, where she has been a valued team member for the past two years. Veronica was drawn to The Oaks through recommendations from friends who praised the supportive work environment, and she has not looked back since. She takes pleasure in working in a skilled nursing setting, where she continues to expand her skills as both a shower aide and floor aide, while fostering meaningful connections with residents.
For Veronica, a fulfilling day at work involves meeting residents' needs promptly and ensuring their satisfaction. What she values most is the appreciation she receives, the camaraderie of her coworkers, and the genuine affection from the residents she cares for.
Like many in healthcare, Veronica faces challenges, particularly when residents decline care. Her approach is rooted in patience and compassion: she listens, builds trust, and gently guides residents to understand the importance of their care. Her advice for others is to "stay positive, work hard, and always have a goal." When asked if she would recommend The Oaks to her friends, she replied affirmatively without hesitation. She appreciates the effective management, friendly staff, and supportive team.
