Spiritual rest is a command I often ignore - to my peril. But feeling desperately tired, I took myself on a mountain respite last weekend. I honestly wish I could go every weekend. Here are some things I learned:
1. My brain is always loud. I just don’t notice till surrounded by silence.
2. I combat this brain roar with a simple “here” or “there” meditation. Whereby anything not in front of me is swept out of my mind.
3. I had forgotten the peace of a good fire.
4. No matter how many times you tell your 20 something camping neighbors to be careful around moose, they probably have no intention of being careful.
5. Moose get real testy when their mud bath is interrupted.
