Make the unknown, known. One of the biggest ways we can support our kid's nervous systems is through consistency and information. Wherever you can, loop your kids in, because just like with adults, unknowns might cause stress, panic, or fear.
"Today, we're going to the pool and on the way home we are going to stop at the bank. Do you want to bring a book for the car?" "When we get home from dinner, you'll take a bath and then go straight to bed. We're not going to watch a movie tonight. You can start thinking about what book you want to read before bed!"
Tailored to their age, information on what's coming can prevent surprises and help kids stay regulated in new or changing situations.
