There’s always that one spot you forget… until it’s red, stinging and peeling. 😬

Even the most careful sunscreen users sometimes miss the sneaky areas—like the back of the neck, ears, lips, tops of hands and feet or that little patch of midriff that sneaks out when you're not looking. These spots may be small, but they’re just as vulnerable to sun damage and long-term risks.

A few extra seconds of sunscreen can make all the difference. Learn how to protect the places most people overlook: www.healthline.com/health/sunscreen-miss-body-burn

A bat found in the Friendly Hills neighborhood of Morrison has tested positive for rabies. This is the fifth animal in Jefferson County to test positive for rabies in 2025. The bat was found on the ground in front of a home and later tested positive.

Rabies is a very serious disease that can spread through the bite or saliva of an infected animal. You cannot tell if an animal has rabies just by looking at it.

Please remember:

* Never touch wild animals, even if they look sick or hurt.
* If you must move an animal for safety, use thick gloves, a shovel, or another tool.
* Call animal control or a wildlife center for help.

Nearby places include:

* Weaver Creek Park
* Weaver Hollow Park and Outdoor Pool
* Home Depot and other businesses near West Quincy Avenue and South Eldridge Street

Stay safe and help protect your family, pets, and neighbors. Learn more: https://www.jeffco.us/2365/Rabies

The reviews are in and if you’re not wearing bug spray, you’re a 5-star buffet. 🦟

Protect yourself from bites and prevent by using EPA approved defensive bug sprays and eliminating standing water in your yard, such as in birdbaths, flowerpots and gutters where mosquitoes love to hang out and multiply.

Protect the whole family. Extreme heat can hit harder than you think, especially for those 65+, if you are on certain medications, pregnant people and children under 4. Know the signs of heat-related illnesses and look out for loved ones and neighbors who may be more affected by the heat.

Sip water, find shade and take breaks before your body hits low power mode. Heat exhaustion is what happens when your body gets too hot - usually from high temperatures and physical activity.

Signs can start quickly or slowly. You might have heavy sweating, feel dizzy or tired, feel sick to your stomach, have muscle cramps or notice a fast heartbeat. Some people get cool, wet skin even when it’s hot out.

If you feel any of this, stop and rest. Go to a cooler place and drink water or a sports drink. If you don’t feel better after one hour or start feeling worse, call a doctor.

In the summer heat, it’s easy to wilt without even realizing it. Staying hydrated helps your body regulate temperature, support energy levels and keep everything from your mood to your muscles functioning smoothly.

Tip: Carry a refillable bottle, sip often and drink extra if you're sweating or spending time outdoors.

One year ago, the JCPH mobile clinic hit the road with a mission: bring vital public health services to the people—wherever they are. 🚐

The van has attended 13 community events across Jefferson County, providing 163 vaccines and helping connect residents to programs like our sexual health clinic, WIC and nurse home visits, ni****ne cessation services and more.

It’s more than just a clinic on wheels—it’s become a trusted presence, a resource hub and a visible reminder of what it means to put people first in public health.

Thank you to everyone who’s helped drive this vision forward (literally). Here’s to another year of showing up with care, connection and compassion. 💙

A bat found in the Ken Caryl Ranch Plains area has tested positive for rabies. This is the fourth rabid animal in the county this year.

The bat was collected near West Chatfield Avenue and West Ken Caryl Avenue. Nearby locations include Chatfield High School, Ken Caryl Ranch House Park, Eagle Meadows Park and Shaffer Elementary School.

If you find a bat in your bedroom or sleeping area, contact Jefferson County Public Health or your local Animal Control agency right away. Even if there is no bite, rabies can spread through tiny scratches or saliva.

Rabies is deadly but preventable with quick treatment.
