Ok I'm sharing this because it totally made me tear up. It also shows what we are born with - a deep desire to truly connect. As the owner and director of a group practice that focuses on using evidence based treatment, I wholeheartedly agree. We are in danger of allowing political motivation to put us into a place on confusion and distrust of the very things that will make our lives better. I reject any attempts to bolster the stigma of mental health treatment and sow distrust of the process that brings us closer to effective treatments for the people who need it.

On Thursday, the Trump administration issued a list of words for the CDC to avoid or not use. It’s unclear if it’s a ban or “how to best get funded” advice. Either way, two of those words are “evidence-based” and “vulnerable” — words that have defined my career.

Regardless of our politics, we have to acknowledge that when we start issuing word bans to scientific organizations we’ve lost our way. This is not normal. This is not who we are.

UPDATE: After carefully reviewing the reports from various news outlets and comments from the CDC, I stand by my post. There has been no direct denial of a list of words that shouldn’t be used.

Is it a ban? Unclear.
Is it advice to procure funding? Unclear.
Is it dangerous? Clear.
