There have been three confirmed cases and one suspected case of measles in Cuyahoga County. Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by a virus and can lead to serious complications.
Immunization against measles is the best way to prevent becoming infected. It is recommended that everyone receive two doses of the measles vaccine. Routine vaccination for children includes the first dose at 12-15 months and the second at 4-6 years. Unvaccinated individuals can receive a 2-dose series at least 4 weeks apart.
If you suspect measles in your household, isolate anyone with symptoms, keep everyone at home to prevent the spread, and call a doctor right away for instructions. If symptoms become severe, do not wait to go to the emergency room, and be sure to call the hospital before you arrive.
