Seems like just yesterday… 🤯

13 years ago I got news I was amongst those who were paired during the first round of doctoral internship position matches. It was almost as big as graduating the following year.

I knew this would start the journey of my professional development BUT had no idea how much personal development I’d gain. Through the oppression, micro aggressions, resistance to change, and willful ignorance I learned I wasn’t the one with the problem.

The words spoken may have been that they want more diversity BUT they truly were and still have yet to become ready to have diverse, female leadership.

Wednesday marks a year that I made the decision to leave state work and step out onto a new platform, valuing myself more than I ever had while at that establishment. I can now accept that while I was ready, they were not and that’s not mine to own.

As a mixed, black woman, I think differently, problem solve differently, am inclusive differently and I stand tall and proud of that difference. I’m so thankful that others did not take the time to truly understand and instead sabotaged the growth and progression due to their ignorance because I’d still be stuck in a place unfit for the value I carry.

I don’t know who needs to see this BUT I hope you do because YOUR difference is beautiful, it is worthy, and it carries value. DO NOT STOP, do not allow suffocation or stillness … there is another venue worthy of you. 🫶🏽💜🫶🏽

New beginnings start at anytime you make the decision for them to. ✊🏽🥰

This cutie was my inspiration for Monday motivation!!! 👇🏽

When you want something bad enough… you fight for it. It’s like an itch you must scratch and it will not go away til you do what you gotta do to stop the itch. 💪🏽

This determined 5 year old wants the big tv… ALL the time. So bad, he sleeps with the remote in his hand to try and keep it from us 🤣🤣

Now I’m not saying that things in life are this simple but at the same time, I’m saying it’s just that simple. 🫤Let me explain 👇🏽🫶🏽👇🏽

While the thing that you want may have a difficult or complex process to get to it, knowing what you want and being WILLING to do what it takes is actually very simple. It’s our automatic thinking - full of fears, worries, anxieties, “what iffing,” catastrophizing, etc. etc. that is the true culprit that makes a difficult and doable task feel impossible or as though we’re not worthy. 🤦🏽‍♀️

As adults we stunt ourselves, our lives, with our thinking. If you can tap into what this lil guy has…. The willingness to take on 5 “big people” to take control of what he wants… that demanding nature … what you’ve had as a once 5 year old… the world again is full of possibilities 🥰

What WILL you be willing to take back today? 🤔

📢Monday motivation 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

What goes in the mind can support it, grow it, tarnish it, stunt it, and or kill it. 🤔 JUST LIKE YOUR TUMMY, BE MINDFUL OF WHAT YOU GIVE YOUR MIND TO CONSUME AND DIGEST ... INDIGESTION OF THE MIND HAPPENS TOO 😵‍💫

The things we expose our minds to can take us on a roller coaster, now, the impact of that roller coaster influences the quality of life you will have.

You ever be in a good mood then watch a movie or tv show and all of a sudden, your state of being has changed?! 🥴. What you exposed yourself to, opened that door. Sometimes we don’t want or need that door to be opened and we slow exposure anyway 😬 Toxic relationships, over extending ourselves and sacrificing our values/morals, and repeatedly watching negative things in social media/news are just three common examples.

Then all of a sudden we feel burdened, chronically overwhelmed, we start spewing negativity, etc. Thats that cognitive indigestion coming out. 🤢🤮

One thing you can do to help prevent this buildup in your mind and or resolve it when you catch it happening is to take moments throughout the day to breath, relax, and check in with yourself. This can be done ANYWHERE really. And I’m not talking about power sessions or power naps.

I’m talking about doing 2-3 minutes of progressive relaxation, pranayama, focused breathing, etc. whenever and wherever it is needed. Even 60 seconds of focused breathing has been found to have great relaxation effects on the brain. This is the equivalent of taking an antacid for your tummy.
