It’s April and we’re reviving our “More Than” Campaign!

Allow us to introduce ourselves. If you are new to the Colorado Respite Coalition, we’re a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping family caregivers TAKE A BREAK! We also connect you to resources to help make caregiving easier.

This spring, we’re encouraging people who are called to care everywhere to stand up and say “I’m more than a mom. I’m more than a dad. I’m more than a spouse. I’m a caregiver, too.” Those of us who step up and take on the responsibility of caring for someone we love dearly deserve to be recognized for what we truly are: caregivers. Yes, you’re a mom, too. But you’re more than that. You are a caregiver.

What’s the difference between respite care and hospice care? Glad you asked!

Hospice Care focuses on the care, comfort, and quality of life of a person with a serious illness who is approaching the end of life. Hospice is designed for situations when it is not possible to cure an illness or a patient chooses not to undergo certain medical treatments.

Respite Care is for a situation where there are extensive care needs - children with disabilities, adults with disabilities, and older adults. It does not have to be related to end of life care. Respite is an opportunity for caregivers to TAKE A BREAK so they can come back to their caregiving responsibilities refreshed and with more energy to share with their loved one.

But there are resources that help you and your loved one stay safe and stable at home. Home modifications, energy assistance, things that help you live comfortably at home.
