You think to yourself, "This is traumatic".

Is it trauma or is it something else?

If you've gone through trauma, you've probably learned to recognize when you're having a trauma response.

There are times when you need to stop, think and ask yourself, "Is this really traumatic for me or is something else?"

Not all your feelings are trauma based. Some feelings can be the ordinary uncomfortable, but normal feelings we all have.

Might you be feeling ordinary sadness, loneliness, or dissapointment?

Don't let your other feelings mascarade as trauma. Unmask them and face them. They won't overwhelm you once you see what the feeling truly is.

You've been through trauma and you can also go through ordinary feelings without being traumatized.

A victim of emotional abuse says, 'I'm staying in the marriage for the kids' sake.' How do you respond?

This is the topic of an article published today by my friend Daniel Pollack, Esq, a Professor at The School of Social Work, Yeshiva University and an expert witness for cases involving foster care, child sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse and child neglect. I was asked to share my thoughts with his readers.

I hope you'll read the article and share your thoughts with me. What would YOU say to someone who chooses to stay in an abusive relationship?

Carpe diem! Being in San Diego, I hoped to visit Dr. Edith Eger and she was gracious enough to welcome me into her home. Others describe her as a world renowned Holocaust survivor, psychologist and best selling author who has been interviewed by scholars and celebrities alike. While she is all of the above, she is much more. She is a beautiful human being.

She's touches us all with her remarkable wisdom, sense of humor, and deep passion to help people heal from trauma.

She depathologizes our suffering and turns it into a beauty mark; something to be worn with pride.

She opened both her home and her heart to me. Then, she gave me a kiss before I left. I walked out with new thoughts and ideas and I plan to make good use of them.

Dr. Edie, like the title of her second book, is a gift.

It's hard to put my experience with her into words. I'm still processing it. But I walked away a changed person.

Good and bad experiences are like the right and left hand.

The wise person uses both to their benefit.

Lead with your mind and not with your mood.

Today, self-care is on everyone's mind, but most of us don't make the connection between self-discipline and self-care, or how it might be linked to emotional neglect in childhood.

Read my blog and find out how an ancient Japanese custom transforms mistakes into a thing of beauty.

No person has ever reached perfection, nor is there any chance they will. Perfection is not the goal; growth is.
