This month we’re celebrating two PPCH foster families who have taken a beautiful next step, adopting three children they first welcomed through foster care.
This is what steady care, consistency, and commitment can make possible. We are proud of these families, and we are honored to walk alongside them through our Foster Care and Certified Kinship services as children move toward safety, belonging, and lasting connection.

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM). This is core to who we are at PPCH, supporting people with I/DD to live with dignity, choice, and real belonging in the communities they call home. This month, let’s celebrate the people we serve, the teams who support them, and the everyday moments that make inclusion real.

Sheryl Guest-Emery is a Colorado-based leader in disability advocacy and a longtime champion for the Black Deaf community. As a founding leader of National Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA), she has helped elevate the importance of language access, culturally responsive advocacy, and equal opportunity for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
Sheryl’s work reminds us that disability rights include communication access, including ASL and interpreting, and that leadership matters at every level, local and national.

Colorado was one of the most important states in the movement for modern disability rights! And we owe that progress to advocates like Donald “Don” Galloway, a Colorado-based disability rights leader who championed full inclusion, access, and civil rights for people with disabilities. While serving as Executive Director of the Colorado Governor’s Council on Disability, Don helped advance the idea that disability rights and racial justice belong in the same conversation, and that true access means everyone can fully participate in community life.

Thank you, Don, for helping shape a more equitable Colorado.

Thanks to PPCH staff Rebecca and Andrew for attending Disability Rights Advocacy Day (D-RAD) at the State Capitol!
Attendees were able to discuss with Colorado lawmakers the many topics that affect the IDD community.
D-RAD is one of many opportunities that we all have to make our voices heard at the state level, and we greatly appreciate all of our who consistently stand up for disability rights!

PPCH staff recently took part in a Cultural Awareness and Equity training led by Dr. Bianca Brandon, LCSW, a long-time member of our PPCH community. The turnout was strong, and staff shared that the session was engaging, practical, and full of ideas they can use right away.
We are grateful for everyone who showed up ready to learn, reflect, and strengthen the way we support each other and the people we serve.

PPCH is now offering Certified Kinship services. Kinship care supports children who can safely stay with someone they already know and trust, such as a grandparent, aunt or uncle, adult sibling, or close family friend. Our Foster Care team helps kinship caregivers navigate certification and access helpful resources and support along the way.

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today! Six more weeks of winter might be uncomfortable for many, so remember to check in on your neighbors, friends, and family, share a warm meal, and watch out for slippery sidewalks.
Stay warm everyone!

We’d like to thank the wonderful folks and Michelle Wells for their story about our new office in Pueblo, CO. The support of the Southern Colorado community, and great reporters like Michelle Wells, is truly humbling and inspiring. Together we can build more inclusive and supportive communities with better access to IDD services.

National Blood Donor Month is almost over, but the need for blood donations is year-round. Giving blood is one of the simplest ways to support your community, and a single appointment can help patients in emergencies, surgeries, and ongoing care.
If you are able, consider scheduling a donation soon and keep it on your calendar throughout the year.

Today is National Maternal Health Awareness Day. We recognize the strength of moms and birthing people, and we support the families and caregivers who walk alongside them. Maternal health is community health, and everyone deserves safe, respectful care and real support before, during, and after pregnancy.
