The Willie Graham Memorial Car Show held on May 2nd was another big success this year, raising over $2,700. This was the fifth year we have hosted this event and it never fails to disappoint. Mother Nature blessed us with some great weather. It is such a win-win for everybody. People visiting that day got to see some beautiful classic cars, we get to show off all the progress we have made at the Memorial Park and my favorite part; getting to hangout with some great people. And although Mother Nature provides the weather, it is because of so many people that the day went smoothly. If you know me, you know I hate listing people because I usually forget somebody. But I am going to give it a try. If I forgot you, I apologize.
Patricia and Bill Nixon, Edith Todd, Gordie Godfrey, Brian Ford, Sharron Cherry and Stan Cherry with Lamar Cruise Night. Volunteers Kathleen Dimond, Jantzen Davis, Larry Fast and Sue Bennett. Also, Noah Schiltz and Freedom Fi****ms, Casey Woods, Danny Little with ShowMe Wagyu Charities, Southwest Sanitation and the City of Lamar.
I don’t say it enough and I should, a big thank you to Barton County Commissioners David Johnson, Jeff Tucker and Ben Reed. A lot of people don’t know it but they actually own the property as well as the building on the southeast corner. The BCMP board owns everything in it, benches, monuments, etc. They have let us use the building for the past six years for numerous events such as the Quilts of Valor presentations, Memorial Day ceremonies, Historical Society meetings, Veteran’s Day candle lighting, Memorial Park board meetings and the yearly Christmas Toy Drive. We could not do any of these events without a building to work out of.
And last but certainly not least, thank you to everybody that came out Saturday to buy a burger or participate in the car show. It is because of you that we look forward to this event every year.
