Kevin Gene Sechrest

Kevin Gene Sechrest, age 56, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away on April 27, 2026, at Carthage Health and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident for over a year.

Kevin was born on September 3, 1969, in Nevada, Missouri, to Larry Sechrest and Janet (Mayfield) Sechrest. He was a graduate of Lamar High School and attended Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Kevin had a lifelong love of sports. He played softball with his church team and enjoyed playing basketball with friends at Grace Place. While in college, he also played racquetball at the YMCA. His favorite sport was football, and he was a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos from a young age.

As a child, Kevin enjoyed camping trips with his parents at Buffalo River State Park. These trips were often shared with his close cousins, Teresa and Mike Keithly, along with their parents. Kevin also had a passion for board games. He regularly played with friends on Wednesday nights at Changing Hands in Joplin and spent many cherished hours playing games with his parents. Kevin loved food and could always be found watching food shows on television. He was a huge animal lover, including his dog, Sugar and his cat, Furball.

Survivors include his parents, Larry and Janet Sechrest; his aunts, Nadine Mayfield and Patty Kennemer; and his close cousins, Mike Keithly and Teresa Butler.

He was preceded in death by his aunts and uncles, Jean and Bob Keithly and Lyn and Marilyn Mayfield; his uncle, Deb Mayfield; and his grandparents, Harvey and Iva Mayfield and Coy and Mary Sechrest.

Kevin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Daniel Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Lake Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the ASPCA or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.

William "Willie" Alexander Splitter

William “Willie” Alexander Splitter, age 66, of Liberal, Missouri, passed away April 18, 2026, at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Willie was born July 29, 1959, in Tribune, Kansas, to August Wendell Splitter and Evelyn Marjorie (Schwartzkopf) Splitter. In 1962, his family moved from Sheridan Lake, Colorado, to Liberal, Missouri, where they established their family farming operation. Willie attended Liberal schools and graduated with the class of 1977. He later attended one semester at Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, where he played football.

On May 11, 1985, Willie married Vickie Lynn Yeokum in Nashville, Missouri, and together they built a life centered around family, faith, and farming.

A lifelong farmer, Willie dedicated his days to working the family land in crop production and built a thriving seed cleaning business over the past 30 years. He was actively involved in his community, supporting local youth through Liberal Rec Sports and the Liberal Booster Club. Willie was also a faithful member of Lamar Christian Church.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Vickie Splitter; three sons, Matthew Splitter of Irwin, Missouri, Timothy Splitter and wife Kayley, and Jordan Splitter and wife Heather, all of Liberal, Missouri; and five cherished grandchildren, Khloe, Ellie, Joseph, Grady, and Maggie Splitter. He is also survived by four brothers, Leslie Splitter and wife Jackie, and August “Butch” Splitter and wife Susan, both of Lamar, Missouri; Sam Splitter of Liberal, Missouri; and Jonathan Splitter and Jody of Mulberry, Kansas; and one sister, Lydia Lightner and husband Harry of Parker, Colorado.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Splitter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2026, at Lamar Christian Church, with burial to follow at Nashville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Lamar Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Liberal Recreation, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.

William “Bill” Milo Garten, age 83, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away April 10, 2026, at Medicalodges of Nevada in Nevada, Missouri.

Bill was born January 18, 1943, in Maryville, Missouri, to Romaine F. Garten and Laura Marie (Ashford) Garten. He graduated from Maryville High School in Maryville, Missouri.

Bill dedicated many years of his career as a mechanic for Trans World Airlines (TWA) in Kansas City, Missouri. After moving his family to Lamar, he pursued his passion for automobiles by owning and operating Speed Merchants, an automotive restoration shop, as well as A-1 Mufflers. Bill had a deep love for classic cars and could often be found attending car shows and swap meets, where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. He was also a member of the Lamar Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include four daughters, Jeni Garten (Kenny Cox) and Kelly White (Mark), both of Lamar, Missouri, Shelly Howard of Winfield, Missouri, and Sherry Burkhammer of Kansas City, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Lyndsey Gruber Chatfield, Kyle Gruber, Taylor Howard, Katlyne Howard Hoelscher, Daniel Howard, Brooke White Brewer, Luke White, Zachary Griffith, Nicholas Burkhammer, Haden Garten, and Brandon Garten; as well as fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mark Garten; grandson, Grant Broughton; sister, Laura Garten Penton-Williams; and brother, Robert Garten.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Steve was born December 26, 1946, in Curry County, New Mexico, to John Fury and Margaret Helen (Semadeni) Fury. He spent his life working the land, raising crops and cattle on his farm, a life that reflected his strong work ethic and deep-rooted connection to agriculture. Steve was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sons, Jonathan Fury of Springfield, Missouri, Jess Fury and wife Hailee of Golden City, Missouri, and Jason Fury of the State of Missouri; two grandchildren, Walker Fury and Kinsley Fury; one brother, Stanley Fury and wife Cathy of Broadview, New Mexico; and two sisters, Josie Lix of Dodge City, Kansas, and Janice Phillips and husband Jim of Key West, Florida.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sherry Fury; one son, Jarod Luke and one sister, Joyce Adamek.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamar, Missouri, with burial to follow in Pippenger Cemetery.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Lorenna Victora Burke, age 76, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away March 25, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Lorenna was born December 20, 1949, in Fort Collins, Colorado, to Joseph Edward Todd and Dorothy Louise (Ackelson) Todd.

She spent many years working in retail, where she enjoyed visiting with people and forming lasting friendships. Lorenna also found joy in being part of a local bowling league, where she shared laughter, camaraderie, and many good times with friends.

Above all, Lorenna treasured her family. She will be remembered for her love, her strength, and the special bond she shared with those closest to her.

Survivors include two daughters, Kattina Erickson of Lamar, Missouri, and Heidi Jo (Marvin) Smith of Sun City, Arizona; three grandchildren, Lorenna Rose Strasheim, Clara Emenecker, and Joseph Samuel Lee Strasheim; one great-grandchild, Cassius David Strasheim; and one sister, Dixie Lee (Albert) Maestas of Littleton, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, Paul Cope, Jr.; her sister, Diana Lyn Asher; and three brothers, Patrick Gene Todd, Michael Dean Todd, and Joseph Edward Todd, Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., June 20, 2026, at 479 NW 1st Lane in Lamar, Missouri.

Sam Dennis Davis

Sam Dennis Davis, age 76, of Alvarado, Texas formerly of Lamar, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2026, Good Friday, from complications during a scheduled surgery. Sam was born on March 11, 1950, in McCune, Kansas to Clint LeRoy Davis and Thelma Blanche (Trout) Davis, the youngest of 7 siblings. He moved to Missouri as a young child and graduated from Lamar High School, class of 1968.

Mechanics was his passion, starting with Ralph Howery Mechanic Shop and driving a dump truck for Oglesby Trucking. He was a school bus driver for Lamar School District and was an employee of O’Sullivan’s Industry.

On December 9, 1971, he married Joyce Stebler and to this union one daughter, Jennifer, was born. He later married Barbara Kirkpatrick Baldwin on August 23, 1985, in Lamar, MO. In 1992, they moved to Texas for him to work with his brother, Gary, working on bucket trucks until his retirement. He then worked part-time for his son in his automotive shop.

Sam enjoyed collecting trains, die cast tractors and cars. He also enjoyed mowing his yard and in most recent years when his health declined, he loved riding around the yard on his lawn mower.

Sam was a man of God and was a faithful member of the Alvarado Church of Christ in Alvarado, TX. He is survived by his wife Barbara and his mother-in-law Darlene Kirkpatrick of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Davis of Joplin, MO and Nellita Carter of Alvarado, TX; a son, John Baldwin and wife Jennifer of Burleson, TX; two granddaughters Tabatha Bulin and husband Colten of Alvarado, TX and Kyleigh Baldwin of Burleson, TX; two great grandchildren Oaklyn and Forest Bulin of Alvarado, TX; one brother, Gary Davis and wife Joy of Conroe, TX; sister-in-law Theresa Davis of Lamar; brother-in-law Kelly Kirkpatrick, Sr, of Lamar; children by choice Charles (Poncho) Carter, Nick Sloan, Missie Rundle, and Chance Tittle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews across several states.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Jerrel Davis, Bill Lauck, Boy Lee Davis, Gene Davis and sisters Betty Lauck Landes and Bonnie Braker. He was also preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, Leonard Braker, Jack, Wayne, Jr (Butch), and Michael Kirkpatrick; father-in-law Wayne Kirkpatrick, Sr, and son by choice Danny Werner. The night before his surgery, he stated he wanted to be home from the hospital in time to attend church on Easter Sunday. He has arrived Home earlier than planned and will be celebrating with Jesus face-to-face. He has been relieved of all of his worldly pain and is now rejoicing in being pain free.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2026 at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, MO., with burial to follow at Howell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time at the funeral home.

Cherlyn Barbara Berry, age 81, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away March 29, 2026, at Good Shepherd Community Care in Lockwood, Missouri.

Cherlyn was born June 23, 1944, in Nevada, Missouri, to James Clark McVey and Mae Lovain (Trainor) McVey. She graduated from Wichita North High School in 1962 and later attended Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. She met the love of her life, William Michael “Mike” Berry, at Pittsburg State University, and on July 25, 1964, they were united in marriage in Kirkwood, Missouri. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, sharing 55 wonderful years before Mike’s passing in 2020.

Cherlyn had a true gift for teaching and spent her career in the classroom with kindergarten and first-grade students. She had a gentle way about her that made children feel safe, valued, and eager to learn. Many in the community will remember her as their very first teacher—the one who helped them read their first words, write their names, and believe in themselves. To Cherlyn, teaching was never just a job; it was a calling.

Her love for children extended far beyond the classroom and into her home, where she was a devoted mother and proud grandmother. She found great joy in her family and treasured time spent together, especially watching her grandchildren grow.

Cherlyn was a faithful member of Lamar Methodist Church, where her quiet but steadfast faith guided her daily life. She lived with kindness, patience, and compassion, always putting others before herself and offering a steady presence to those around her.

Survivors include her son, Brad Berry and wife Laurie of Little Rock, Arkansas; her daughter, Bethany Meads and husband Brad of Olathe, Kansas; three grandchildren, Mark Meads and fiancée Lauren Dickey, Michael Meads, and Annie Clemons and husband Brenner; her sister-in-law, Lynn Divine and husband Keith; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mae McVey; her husband, Mike Berry; and her brother, Gary McVey.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Lamar Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Lake Cemetery in Lamar, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Skye Delane Cox, age 39, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away March 22, 2026, in Hutschenhausen, Germany, where she was proudly serving with the United States Air Force.

Skye was born January 24, 1987, in Nevada, Missouri, to David W. Cox Sr. and C. Elaine Cline.

Skye faithfully served her country in the United States Air Force since 2007, holding the position of Aircraft Fuels System Craftsman. She was deeply dedicated to her service and took great pride in her military career.

Skye loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found fishing, hunting, riding horses, snorkeling, and snowboarding with her son, Maddox. She also cherished time spent walking her beloved dogs, Pearl and Riot.

Survivors include her wife, Katie Cox; her son, Maddox Ivan James Cox; her mother, Elaine Cline, her father, David W. Cox Sr and his wife Tricia .; two brothers, Seth Cline and David Cox II; five sisters, Laresa Lathrop, Beth Lawrence, Rachel Cox Hyder and husband Jason, Hannah Cox, and Sarah Johnston and husband Chris; four nephews, Chace Lawrence, Lane Hyder, Roper York, and Dean Lathrop; five nieces, Paisley Hyder, Layla Hyder, Mariah Lathrop, Raegan Lathrop, and Lavenia-Rose Cline; and her grandmother, Patricia Middleton.

Skye was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Eldon Hites, Vern Cox and Danny Middleton Sr.; her grandmothers, Vica Cox and Emily Blanchard and her husband Kenneth Blanchard; a nephew, Matthew Lawrence; and a niece, Lyric Hyder.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, Missouri. Burial will follow at Sheldon Cemetery in Sheldon, Missouri, with full military honors.

Carolyn Lee Isaac, age 86, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Lamar.

Carolyn was born October 10, 1939, in Iola, Kansas, to Francis “Fritz” Walter Womack and Doris Jean (Parks) Womack. She graduated from Iola High School with the Class of 1957. On November 16, 1959, Carolyn was united in marriage to Larry Eugene Isaac Sr. in Iola, Kansas.

Carolyn devoted her life to caring for her family as a stay-at-home mother. She was a faithful and active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamar, where her strong faith guided her daily life. She was also a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and was honored as the 1957 Kansas State Rodeo Queen. Carolyn will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her steadfast faith, and her involvement in her community.

Survivors include her husband, Larry; one son, Evart Wayne Isaac and wife, Gina, of Lamar; one daughter, Karolyn Sue “Susie” Knierim, of Lamar; six grandchildren, Rodney Troutz and wife, Angela, Tiffany Lewis and husband, Steven, Kyle Knierim, Will Isaac and wife, Rachel, Brenna Giger, and Emily O’Connell and husband, Chad; ten great-grandchildren, Jack Troutz, Sabrina Feezell and husband Jacob, Jodie Lewis, Payton Giger, Tucker Giger, Baylee Giger, Keaton Isaac, Mason Isaac, Kinley Isaac, and Addison Rodgers; and two great-great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Feezell and Jayden Mangold.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Larry Eugene Isaac Jr.; two brothers, John Womack and Jack Womack; and two sisters, Doris Jackman and Betty Murray.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamar, Missouri. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Iola, Kansas.

The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m., Monday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church prior to the Funeral Mass.

The funeral home will be open Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the register book. The family will not be in attendance.

Carolyn’s life was a reflection of love, faith, and devotion to her family, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
