I first stepped on a yoga mat when I was 43 years old. I may never have even tried yoga were it not for a very good friend who’s passion enticed me. She owned her own beautiful studio and was teaching a beginner level class that fit my schedule, and well, I wanted to support her dream. I was painfully self conscious, uncomfortable, and constantly sneaking peeks at my neighbor to see how I measured up. The ONLY reason I went back...my friend had made me feel competent, safe and as though I belonged. It still took 6 month for me to become a regular practitioner and it was then that I started to LOVE yoga. See, I hated to exercise. I knew I should and would even go through spurts of regular gym attendance. But I never saw the results I was after, struggled with my weight, my eating habits and most importantly my body image and self worth. That all changed after creating a regular yoga practice...I looked forward to going, I stopped comparing, (most of the time), I saw changes in my posture, my body, and my sense of self! Holy crap, was I becoming athletic!? Yep, I was changing both the inside and outside and was in utter disbelief! So much so that a year later I committed to yoga teacher training! 200 hours in a 6 1/2 week intensive program. My beautiful friend was leading this training, so full disclosure, still a little in the comfort zone. I became a certified teacher at 45, and since, have completed my 500 hour training and a 3 year, 1000 hour training to become a certified yoga therapist. Comfort zone annihilated. I signed up, traveled an hour to walk into a studio I had never visited, to begin a 3 year journey I knew little about with 25 strangers (who are of course now family), led by yoga superstars I had never met. I was able to do so with confidence and clarity.
You probably will not see me posting pictures of myself in complex poses showing off the latest in yoga apparel. Honestly, I don’t think anything about that would entice you to try yoga...in fact, I assert that it may do the opposite. Yoga is not about standing on your head or having the cool expensive outfit. I don’t stand on my head and I buy my outfits on the clearance rack. It took some time for me to realize that I AM a yogi in my $12.99 leggings while NOT standing on my head! Here’s the thing, I am. I embrace all facets (limbs) of yoga and incorporate them in to everything I do. I AM yoga. And so are you...you are exactly where you need to be with what you need to have. If you have read all of this, maybe you are ready to begin your own journey...
I offer private yoga therapy sessions designed specifically to meet your needs. Find YOUR yoga! Stress relief, pain management, relaxation, flexibility...the list is endless and I will teach you how to find your path. The answer lies within...
