Ethel and Sharon have been friends for many years. While Sharon visited, we all reminisced about Ethel being a Ballroom Dancer, a fun fact we did not know. Sharon shared that Ethel would go to her closet and pick out the most beautiful dress and head out for an evening of fun.

"Friendship isn't about big thing, it's a million little things" unknown.

"Everyone likes to dirty the dishes, but no one likes to wash them", giggled Ann after Friday Ice Cream Social.
Ann was excited to wash the dishes as this is a mundane task that she often misses. Residents at Aspen Grove have a kitchenette with a sink, fridge, and microwave for their own use. "I only have a cup or two each day. Nothing like when I grew up or raised my children. I miss washing dishes" Ann shared.

Thank you to Heartland Hospice who held a food drive to benefit the Bedford Veterans and Monroe County Opportunity Program.
When Randy, Hospice Care Consultant asked if a donation box could be placed at Aspen Grove, the answer was an immediate YES!
Kerri Torres, Executive Director gave our staff an incentive to donate “If staff donated 5 non-perishable items, they could wear pajama’s. The day was a hit and over 55 items were collected”.
Special shout out to our receptionist Gretchen for wearing the amazing housecoat that she stole from her Grandma years ago. Gretchen shared that “it makes me smile to wear it”. It was use smile too.

Neon was the theme on October 9 as we continued to celebrate National Health Care Food Service week. This fun day was brought to us courtesy of Holly, Wellness Director and Laura, Magnolia Trails Director. These two ABSOLUTELY took it to the next level with neon Popcorn and homemade Rice Krispy's that glowed under a black light. Are you wondering where we got a black light? Laura went on a hunt and found one 🙂

How to get more laughter in your life
While many of the health benefits of laughter are especially helpful later in life, we tend to laugh less as we age. In fact, children laugh approximately 400 times a day, while adults only manage to chuckle about 15 times.

Some ideas for getting more laughter into your life include:

Lighten up: Laughter isn’t a talent, it’s a habit. When you get in the habit of looking for humor in everyday situations, you’ll start to laugh more easily. If you spill your tea, find the funny in it. If you see something funny, don’t hold back your laughter.
Make yourself laugh: Most laughter research focuses on spontaneous laughter — laughing at something you see or hear. But there are also therapeutic effects to simulated laughter that you force.
Schedule laughter breaks: Several times a day, take a moment to search for something funny. Look online for a funny video, watch a sitcom, or call your funniest friend or relative.
Try laughter yoga (laughter as an exercise): Laughter yoga uses breathing and movement exercises to encourage laughter. Research shows that laughter yoga may improve depression symptoms and life satisfaction.

John, a Magnolia Trails resident at Georgetowne Place, grew up on a farm and spent his childhood driving tractors and milking cows. He often shared these fond memories, so the team knew exactly what would make the perfect Tree of Dreams by bringing him back to the farm! With his daughter and great-grandson in tow, John was thrilled to see how things have changed and deeply grateful for the experience. Great job, team!
