It’s National Health Center Week!

We are doing a recap of our Community Partner Appreciation Day!

LCHC gave out gifts to a few partners who helped make 2024-2025 a successful year of outreach to our community.

Partners help us work collaboratively to reach more residents through our services/programs.

Let’s give them all a huge MAHALO!

In honor of National Health Center Week, we wanted to share some facts about Hypertension, also known as “High Blood Pressure.”

LCHC continues to provide community awareness and education about Hypertension through programs and services that help our patients navigate this chronic disease.

As we strive for a healthier Lanai, we share this information with you in hopes that you can share it with others.

Education is key and you are the key to change.

Governor Josh Green officially proclaimed August 2024 as Community Health Worker (CHW) Awareness month in Hawai’i!

The proclamation recognizes the amazing work and contributions of community health workers in promoting health and well-being across our state.

One year later, CHWs continue to play vital roles in our communities as frontline public health workers, serving as a liaison between health and social services.

At Lanai Community Health Center (LCHC), CHWs continue to be vital to organization and to our Lanai community.

They assist with clinical and community integration and assessing the social determinants of health needs in our community.

They are key to connecting individuals to basic needs, providing health education and promoting health knowledge in individuals, providing outreach to patients and linking them to necessary health services.

We would like to give a heartfelt shout out to our Community Health Workers (Tanisha Magaoay, Jingle Agcaoili, and Jennifer Amor) and to our Community Outreach & Education Specialist (Wilma Koep) for their important contributions to improving the quality of life and overall health of our Lanai community members.

Lanai Community Health Center would like to welcome Izabelle Vazquez-Ortega to our Behavioral Health team.

Izabelle is a Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student at Hawaiʻi Pacific University.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Biology from the University of Redlands.

Her clinical interests include child and adolescent psychology, trauma-informed care, multicultural and community mental health, and systemic inequities across juvenile justice and school systems.

In her leisure time she enjoys spending time outdoors, making shell jewelry, trying new cooking recipes, and relaxing at the beach with my dog.

MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY IS A GREAT REMINDER THAT HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS ARE PART OF GOOD MENTAL HEALTH.

COUPLES THERAPY IS WHEN TWO PEOPLE IN A RELATIONSHIP TALK WITH A THERAPIST TO WORK ON PROBLEMS AND FEEL CLOSER.

COUPLES THERAPY WORKS BECAUSE IT TEACHES PEOPLE HOW TO LISTEN WITHOUT INTERRUPTING, TALK WITHOUT YELLING, AND TREAT EACH OTHER WITH KINDNESS.

A THERAPIST HELPS BOTH PEOPLE FEEL HEARD AND TEACHES THEM BETTER WAYS TO HANDLE STRESS AND ARGUMENTS.

IT CAN ALSO HELP THEM SET GOALS AND FEEL MORE CONNECTED.

ALL RELATIONSHIPS HAVE UPS AND DOWNS, AND GETTING HELP SHOWS YOU CARE.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP IS ONE WAY TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEART AND YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

Our very own Mindy Bolo sits as the Lanai Board Member of Maui Economic Opportunity (MEO) as part of the Resident Sector, not only representing LCHC, but Lanai Island as a whole.

Mindy served alongside MEO staff and volunteers at today’s Kupuna Luncheon held at the Grand Wailea Ballroom with a gathering of over 500 Kupuna, which included a diverse group of dignitaries, such as Mayor Bissen, former Mayor Victorino, , and more…

We support our staff in investing their time and talents in other organizations to build meaningful connections, make lasting impacts for a better Hawaii, and represent our health center and Lanai across diverse areas within our community, county, and state.

LCHC was able to donate Utility Tote Bags for the event.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL SELF-CARE DAY!

THIS SPECIAL DAY WAS CREATED BY THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION TO REMIND US THAT TAKING CARE OF OURSELVES IS IMPORTANT.

SELF-CARE CAN LOOK LIKE GOING FOR A WALK, EATING A HEALTHY SNACK, WRITING IN A JOURNAL, TALKING TO A FRIEND, READING A BOOK, TAKING A BREAK, MAKING A HOMEWORK PLAN, CLEANING YOUR ROOM, OPENING A WINDOW, SPENDING QUIET TIME ALONE, THINKING ABOUT YOUR VALUES, SAVING YOUR ALLOWANCE, OR CHOOSING NOT TO SPEND MONEY ON SOMETHING SMALL.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING AT ONCE.

EVEN ONE SMALL SELF-CARE HABIT CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.

WHICH ONE WILL YOU TRY TODAY?

2nd cohort of Family Empowerment ended May 15th, 2025.

We are grateful for this cohort bringing in diverse perspective and discussion on the topics of community, stress management, and communication skills.

Each adult participant received a $50 gift card to Richard’s market.

Huge mahalo to Dr. Allison and Mindy Bolo who continue to gather cohorts together for our community.
