My sweet family will be welcoming our 4th in early 2026! As we adjust to a family of 6, I will be taking some time off starting in December of this year. I'm not sure for how long, but I will still be available for all of my current & postpartum clients!

Being "complete" or 10cm dilated, does not always mean it is time to push. In fact, many women don't even need a cervical exam to check dialtion to know when to push. The urge to push becomes stronger as the baby descends and eventually that urge to push becomes an uncontrollable reflex. Think of it as the feeling of being nauseated and the act of vomiting. One is a sensation and the other is involuntary.

So, if you consent to a cervical check and the care provider says "you're complete, time to push!", you can request to wait until you feel the urge to push. This will likely lead to a shorter pushing time as well!

Being a doula is more than just hip squeezes and counter pressure. A doula holds space for all of the expected and unexpected emotions during pregnancy, labor and postpartum. A doula provides a safe environment for you to feel and be vulnerable in. A doula helps you make informed decisions by making sure you are provided with all of your choices and evidence based information. A doula creates a bridge of communication between everyone that is involved in your birth so you don't have to worry about facilitating your birth preferences. A doula is there to make sure your partner is taken care of and included during your labor. A doula is there to advocate with you and make you feel heard. A doula creates a special bond with you and your family that lasts a lifetime. A doula is what every mother deserves to have.

As I adjust with my family to bringing my sweet boy into this world, I decided to take a small step back from doula work in terms of taking less clients each month. I am planning to only take 2 clients per month with priority going to repeat clients. If you are pregnant or thinking about hiring a doula, please reach out as soon as possible so I can secure your due date!

My sweet Elliott was born peacefully in our cozy home on July 29th at 4:20pm. Weighing in at 10lbs 4oz and measuring 23 inches long, he certainly made me work to meet him. It was an intense labor but the most peaceful labor I've had. My birth team and the calm energy & support they provided will remain unmatched. My love for them is endless and it just goes to prove that your birth team matters.

captured the most incredible photos that I'm excited to share with you. Her work is magical ✨️

I see my clients reach this "gate" during birth and it never ceases to amaze me when I watch them dig into their deep primal strength and push themselves through. It looks different for everyone, but one thing that isn't different is that you do not have to push through alone. Surround yourself with a team that is going to support you & make you feel safe. This is your primal space and you are in charge.

The biggest question about labor is, "When will it happen?". No one really knows. MOST babies arrive at the perfect time for them. The baby's lungs and the placenta give off signals to start labor the majority of the time. The mother's hormones begin to change as she prepares for labor in the final weeks. Progesterone lowers and estrogen rises. This is why the pregnant mom can suddenly become weepy, anxious, doubtful or even crazily energetic.

If you experienced labor before, did you notice a change prior to labor starting?

I'm getting my space cozy for the labor that is soon to come. I have soft lighting, some of my favorite essential oils, labor aide tinctures, tinctures for those postpartum after pains, arnica for pain, affirmation cards, labor comb and some other things. Also not pictured are some items that will help keep my space clean during my homebirth.

I also have a journal to document things throughout labor which will then be used for a journal to write about the big, silly & cute moments of his life. I did this with both my girls and I plan to give it to them when they get older.

Relaxation is crucial during each stage of labor all for different reasons. Here are some different things we can say help the laboring mom relax:

1. "Open your jaw"
2. "Make low sounds"
3. "Melt into the sensations"
4. "I'm so proud of you, you are doing this"
5. "Take slow, deep breaths with me"

Send this to your birth partner!

It is normal for pain to be one of the first things we think about when we invision labor and birth. It's what's portrayed in movies. It's the birth stories we've been told. It's what has been embedded in our minds as normal over time as a product of societal culture.

If we aren't prepared antenatally with effective ways to manage labor and understand the physiological process of birth, most will naturally enter with fear for what's ahead.

If we enter labor with fear, the fear-tension-pain cycle takes over.

Take an evidenced based childbirth education course. Hire a doula. Build a support team that will help you feel safe and in control. This is your birth, and you are capable.
