Protect your little ones this winter!! RSV is most common from October through April. A preventive antibody is available to protect our littlest children from severe RSV illness.

- Newborns: recommended within one week of birth.
- Expectant Mothers: During RSV season at their OB may receive an antibody between 32-36 weeks gestation and greater than 14 days prior to delivery for antibodies to be passed from mother to baby.
- Infants > 8 months of age who are at increased risk for RSV during their second RSV season may qualify for the immunization, so talk to your doctor.
- Infants < 8 months of age and newborns may begin scheduling nurse visits as early as October 1st!

It’s soccer season and our favorite soccer Mom, Dr High, shares their secret for starting game day off right: We pregame with a full Gatorade the night before game. Then in morning we like a peanut butter bagel for protein and a small glass of white milk. About two hours prior to game time we do some more Gatorade. We drink only water during the game. That tends to get the electrolytes and protein we need for being at our best! ⚽️

On Sunday, Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development hosted their annual Rubber Duckie Race and Festival to raise funds to support the children in their care so they can receive the services they need. Schreiber offers various services and therapies for children with disabilities, developmental delays, or injuries. Our very own Dr. Pawlson took part in the race on Sunday to show his support for this organization. We love Schreiber Pediatrics and appreciate all that they do not only for our patients but all children in the community. Without them, some children would not be able to receive vital services that allow all children to live their life to the fullest potential. Thank you, Dr. Pawlson, for taking the time to participate in this event!

School is back in session! As children spend more time in the classroom together, various illnesses circulate. Strep Throat is a common germ to make its way around the classroom!

Strep Throat is caused by group A strep bacteria and requires antibiotic treatment. It is most common in children ages 5-15 and very uncommon in children younger than 3 years old. It is most often spread through droplets when coughing, sneezing, shaking hands, etc.

Common Signs & Symptoms include:
- sore throat that comes on quickly
- fever
- pain with swallowing
- red swollen tonsils with white patches or streaks
- painful or swollen neck glands
- headache
- stomach pain
- red rash that looks like sandpaper (Scarlet Fever)

It is important to note that most sore throats are caused by viruses, especially if your child has a cold. The best prevention against Strep Throat is thorough hand washing!!
