The postpartum period is the first 6 weeks after birth, when your body and emotions are adjusting and healing. It’s a special time to bond with your baby—and an important time to care for yourself, too. For more information or support, visit www.pregnancylancaster.com
10 Ways to Care for Yourself After Giving Birth:
1. Rest - Sleep whenever your baby sleeps. Even short naps make a huge difference.
2. Eat Well - Fuel up with lean proteins, fruits, veggies, whole grains, and dairy. Limit sugar, junk food, and alcohol.
3. Hydrate - Aim for at least 8 cups of water a day—up to 16 if you’re breastfeeding.
4. Move Your Body - Start with simple walks. Try gentle at-home workouts or low-impact exercises when you can.
5. Do Your Kegels - Strengthen your pelvic floor daily (your future self will thank you!).
6. Accept Help - Say yes when people offer support—meals, chores, anything. It truly takes a village.
7. Manage Stress - Check in with yourself. If baby blues last more than two weeks, call your provider.
8. Keep Appointments - Don’t skip your postpartum visits. Call your OB if something feels off.
9. Take Your Vitamins - Keep taking prenatal vitamins while breastfeeding or switch to a multivitamin recommended by a healthcare professional.
10. Make Time for Joy - Do things that fill your cup, alone or with baby. You still matter, too.
