Residents, staff and families sailed into National Nursing Home Week with smiles, laughter and creating new friends and memories. This year’s celebration bloomed to life with the theme “Moments in Bloom”
Throughout the week, everyone enjoyed a variety of blooming-themed activities designed to celebrate creativity, community, and wellness. Hamilton Arms began the weeks celebrations with "Mothers and Muffins." Staff and volunteers planted beautiful flowers around the facility grounds for all to enjoy when outdoors relaxing, Residents learned how to make edible sugar flowers decorating their cake into a blooming tasty dessert , Flower button vases were made to spread cheer and spring for the dining room tables as centerpieces, Residents enjoyed “Steeped” a traditional blooming tea bud. They were able to choose their favorite edible flower from jasmine, marigold, rose, and pansies and watched it bloom in their teacups before their eyes, sipping and enjoying. Jamie Hudson instructed an art class, teaching residents how to create the visual beauty of flowers through acrylic paints, Residents and families enjoyed a day of “Nurses Bingo" winning special weekly prizes, and the week ended with a “Mad-Hatter” tea party as staff assisted ladies with their tea hats,
The Gentleman passed on the hats but enjoyed all the delightful desserts, Staff served delightful pastries, teas, coffee and punch as the Mad-Hatter arrived greeting everyone and reading the traditional golden book “Alice In Wonderland!” What a fun filled week! Great job to everyone who helped to pull off such a wonderful week!

Traditional Mexican songs encouraged residents to clap along and reminisce. For some, the music sparked memories of past travels and family gatherings, while others simply enjoyed the rhythm and energy it brought to the room.
Residents enjoyed the Educational and trivia games about Mexican culture and history.
As the celebration came to a close, residents lingered, chatting and enjoying the festive environment. For many, the Cinco de Mayo event was not just a party, but a reminder of the value of culture, companionship, and shared experiences at every stage of life.

James Hudson has been a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Hamilton Arms Center for 14 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and is set to graduate from Millersville University with a Master of Arts in December 2026.
In his spare time, between working at Hamilton Arms and completing his master’s degree, James has taken on the role of instructor for a Fine Arts Class at Hamilton Arms, which he will lead monthly. Jame's art class was standing room only as residents who know James and adore him gathered with anticipation. The pencils arrived already sharpened and the sketch books opened ready to receive the creative flow the residents had to give. Residents soon learned sketching demands patience and observation. James encouraged the residents to create their art from their soul. In the end, fine arts class is less about the art and more about connection to memory, to self and to others. It reveals creativity does not fade with age; it simply waits for an invitation. Thank you James for sharing your talent and inspiration with our residents!
