PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 27, 2025

CHESTER, SOUTH CAROLINA:

Joseph Gary Landry, 69, of Chester, SC, was found guilty in Chester County General Sessions Court on Thursday, February 27. Landry was charged with two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor Third Degree. Jury selection began on Monday, February 24, 2025, and the jury received the case before lunch on Thursday. After about an hour of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict of guilty as to both counts. The Honorable Judge Robert Hood sentenced the Defendant to eight years for each count to run concurrent. The sentence will be served in the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Landry’s convictions for Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor Third Degree also require him to register as a s*x offender with mandatory GPS monitoring. The case was prosecuted by Sixth Circuit Deputy Solicitor Candice Lively with assistance from Senior Assistant Solicitor Jessica Russo and Assistant Solicitor Julia Soprano-Cesmat. The Chester County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.

The child who was less than 16 years of age at the time of the s*xual abuse, disclosed her abuse on March 8, 2023. Chester County Sheriff’s Office was notified of this report of abuse and opened an investigation into the matter. In her disclosure, she stated that Landry inappropriately touched her in a s*xual manner on multiple occasions starting in 2018. Palmetto Citizens Against Sexual Assault (PCASA) provided services to the victim and her family.

Solicitor Newman stated, “My heart goes out to the young victim in this case and the family. I am thankful to have prosecutors like Candice and our team that advocate for victims in cases like this. We are blessed in this community to have such strong partnerships with our law enforcement agencies as well as PCASA.”

Denim Day

Today, April 29, is National Denim Day! Dating back 21 years ago in Italy as a show of solidarity for a r**e survivor blamed (by the Italian Supreme Court) for wearing tight jeans.

We know that Sexual Violence is 100% preventable and clothing has nothing to do with preventing it.
