Looking for something relaxing to do outside in the beautiful weather? Try gardening! 🌿Although very hands-on 🤲and busy, gardening is also therapeutic. Research shows that manipulating dirt or mud , or grounding yourself while barefoot in nature (aka Earthing), increases serotonin levels. More specifically, serotonin boosts moods and reduces stress🌞. Therefore your immunity and happiness increase as well. So happy Friday everyone!! Fill your weekend with time in nature, without fear. Enjoy some fun, in the stress-free mess of soil! 🪴

Tempo’s Fantastic Five for a Great Summer! Here is a conglomerate of tips from Tempo media team to help launch you into a great summer season.

1) Hydrate: using a sugar free or low sugar electrolyte drink can help replace the additional fluids lost with high temperatures, activity and sweating.

2) Sunshine: Enjoying the outside will help our depleted bodies replenish lost vitamin D. It’s helps boost serotonin, which improves mood. It boosts immune system, sleep regulation, is said to aid in weight loss by boosting metabolism.

3) Sunscreen: Burns can place a damper on your future plans. Don’t forget to wear an adequate SPF sunscreen. Re-apply more frequently when engaging in water activities.

4) Physical Activity: Members suggest spending time with friends swimming, taking walks, taking your dog to a park, playing golf, going to the ocean or going on an evening hike.

5) Social Events: Consider engaging with friends and/or family, and community. Try planning a backyard gathering, going to a BBQ, planning to meet friends for fireworks, or going to tour a garden like Chanticleer or Longwood Gardens.

That’s a wrap! How many of the Tempo’s Fantastic Five have you accomplished? Here's your invite to post one of your Fantastic Five by replying with a pic and a quick script of which tip you hit. Here's some cheers to you and the best summer ever!

We are grateful that Stephen, Mollie and Colin have been able to gain more knowledge at Colleague training at Alliance House in Salt Lake City, Utah (https://www.alliancehouse.org/blank-2)! They joined three other Clubhouses in the nation and had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful and immersive experience. We are excited to have our colleagues at Tempo on Monday and glean all the helpful skills they learned from their experience! https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14cGxCQGmn7/.

Colleague training in Clubhouse models is an immersive, two-to-three-week program designed for staff and members to learn the principles of psychiatric rehabilitation, including the work-ordered day, employment, and housing support. Coordinated by Clubhouse International at specialized training bases, this training helps participants launch or strengthen local Clubhouse communities. “ You’re capable of new learning.”
Amy a Tempo Clubhouse member is finding joy in exploring art. Growing up and having some experiences where her artwork was hindered, made creating art less enjoyable. However, as an adult Amy is engaging in newfound creativity. This is helping her to expand her horizons and notice many life principles such as balance, self-control, walking a process through from start to finish and at the end of the project being able to tell yourself that you’re done when your done. Amy is enjoying the freedom that art brings and how the artistic expression is giving her the ability to see the world more fully. There’s a great sense of happiness and encouragement that I feel when I share art with others.” Remember you are capable of new learning and you’ll never know how much you can do until you try! 🎨

“The Clubhouse assists members to reach vocational & educational goals by helping them take advantage of educational opportunities in the community. When the Clubhouse also provides an in-house education program, it significantly utilizes the teaching and tutoring skills of members (Standard 25).”

Members at Tempo actively participate in this standard by gathering weekly at the Education & Employment (E&E) meeting, helping each other in the E&E room, assisting with job searches, collaborating with resume building and practicing interviewing skills.🤝
