When looking for a daily moisturizer with SPF, it has been recommended to seek one with a blend of antioxidants incorporated in it. This will ensure protection against free radicals from exposure to visible light (a kind of blue light that is found on the visible part of the sun's spectrum that also comes from devices you stare at all day long!).

This is why it is critical you wear your daily moisturizer with SPF in it every single day. We love Replenix's Antioxidant SPF 50 moisturizer for these reasons (currently sold in office).

How much sunscreen do you really need to apply? Most people do not apply enough. You need 1 oz. to cover a body that is in swimwear, a shot glass full.

So let's say you go to the beach and take a long 1 bottle of sunscreen, Neutrogena Dry Touch SPF 55 for instance. That is a 3 oz. bottle, that would only be 3 applications of sunscreen ๐Ÿ˜ฎ.

One common myth we get about sunscreen use is if the number is higher than 30 for instance, you don't get any extra protection. One of our favorite sources busted that myth: "SPF 30 allows 3% of UVB (main source for sunburn) to hit your skin. An SPF 50 allows 2% of UVB rays through," (skincancerfoundationjournal) This means, SPF 30 is allowing 50 percent more UVB radiation onto your skin. That's a lot folks!

Nothing says the unofficial start to summer like cookouts, pool parties and fun in the sun. However, as you gear up to celebrate this Memorial Day weekend don't forget your SPF, sunglasses and wide brimmed hats because no one wants to look like a hot dog left on the grill for too long! โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿ”

When we educate patient's about sun protection sometimes we have to go after their vanity ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ....The Skin Cancer Foundation Journal came out with an article that really hits the nail on the head, "If you think wrinkles, sagging, dark spots, leathery texture and uneven skin tone are just natural signs of aging, you're FOOLING yourself!" It is estimated that 90% of skin aging is caused by sun and that is true for every skin tone!
They go on to say that every bit of UV radiation exposure (even on cool or cloudy days people) can start the process of damaging the DNA in skin cells. The human body is amazing, as we know, and it will start to repair some of that damage, but not all, and it will accumulate over time. This will lead to skin cancer and those signs of aging.

Sunburn is damage.
A tan is damage.
Those tiny, cute freckles....are all signs of damage.

To play it safe with gel , The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends applying a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen to hands 20 minutes before your hands are exposed to UV light. However, even this precaution does not protect against subungual (under the nail) squamous cell carcinoma, a rare but potentially aggressive form of skin cancer. http://bit.ly/2LhCu3p
