Dedication: Menieve’s Day Care Activity Book.
Menieve’s Daycare was birthed on the genuine care, devotion, commitment to protect and providing abilities that my mother Menieve aka Miss Shelia or Miss Shiela had not only for her children but for those who she came in contact with that needed help. Whether it be something to eat, a prayer, lend a helping hand, a word of encouragement, advice or to provide shelter.
My mother is the oldest of her siblings and with that came responsibilities during her days as a youngster growing up in Irie Jamaica. When she became of age her new duties were that of home life to assist my grand mother, her mother to raised her other siblings. Due to this my mother was not given the opportunity of an education which led her to not being able to read fully; she could however spell her name correctly and signed her signature, knows her birthday and address information which was what she needed to get by in her daily life and that took her very far in her lifetime. That did not stop her though; to be a kind and caring individual with plenty morals and values.
My mother went over and beyond to make sure her children had an education and she persisted I get the best opportunities education has to provide. She tried her very best to extend the importance of this in her reminders of telling us that she didn’t have this opportunity that we can take advantage of. I listened and I am the most educated person that she’s grown to be fond of. My mother and my father were very pressed on us to have a good education the values and responsibilities that comes with an education and how it will be the thing that determines our lives and livelihoods.
My father rest his sweet soul would give us the exposure we needed to see the world from his directions. He was a Matre’ D at a known hotel in Negril Jamaica W.I. Every Friday night was “Friday Funday” as it was dress up evening to go to the hotel and enjoy the festivities with visiting guests to the island. We saw the fire work’s performances, did the limbo dances, sing along songs, ate from the finest buffet. It was from here I realized I loved baby back ribs and I looked forward to having this as a treat along with the bread pudding. He would place us at a table to observe the guests that were visiting; their professions, the way they talk, communicate and even eat with the knives and forks. It was here I wanted to be everything they said they were. I was surrounded by lawyers, doctors, dentist, nurses, teachers, bankers, entrepreneurs, specialists in medical fields microbiologist, biologists and analysts. My father paved a road for me that I knew I will surpass; if you’ve read “The Jamaican Linguist: I Remember When.” You can follow up on the fruition of my endeavors due to the support, drive and push to succeed that my parents assured me for my future.
Menieve’s Daycare book will give you a path directed at my childhood work books activities; from stories of my childhood learning experiences, favorite class times, work sheets for coloring, brain storming and work sheets for grading. This book if filled with ways of understanding learning abilities and how to get pass the challenges of misunderstandings or miscommunication of an activity in learning. In no time your young one will be skipping classes to the next grade level and graduating early as well.!
