Feeling overwhelmed? I work with teens and young adults to build practical resilience — here are three evidence-based tools you can try today. 1) Grounding: Name 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, 1 you can taste — breathe slowly as you go. 2) Reframe: When a negative thought pops up, ask “What’s a kinder, more helpful way to look at this?” Write one alternative thought. 3) Soothe: Use the 4-4-8 breathing (inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 8) for 1–2 minutes to calm big feelings. These skills lower immediate distress and, with practice, improve focus at school and help relationships feel steadier.
