Did You Know?
Gabapentin was originally developed to help manage seizures and certain types of nerve pain.
Today, it’s commonly prescribed for a wide range of conditions including back pain. However, emerging research (including a 2025 study analyzing over 26,000 patient records published in Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine) suggests a possible association between long-term use and increased rates of cognitive decline, including dementia particularly in adults under 50.
Gabapentin works by dampening activity in the central nervous system. While this may help reduce symptoms, it doesn’t address the underlying cause of dysfunction. In some cases, it may simply quiet the signals rather than restore proper communication within the body.
If your nervous system isn’t functioning optimally, the goal shouldn’t just be to suppress symptoms but to improve how your body communicates and heals.
