Behind every swing, obstacle course, sensory bin, and tiny moment of connection… there’s so much development happening 🤍✨

Play is never “just play.”
It’s regulation.
It’s confidence.
It’s motor skills, problem solving, communication, body awareness, and trust being built one small moment at a time.

This is the heart behind Beeyond Play 🫶

The confidence, balance, coordination, and body awareness growth has been amazing to watch. Sometimes the biggest progress comes from the little moments 💫

First time successfully scooping with the help of functional hand by 🙌 Such an exciting milestone and a great example of how the right supports can help build independence and confidence during everyday tasks.

Executive functioning isn’t just worksheets and sitting at a table 🧠✨

Something as simple as walking on a balance beam while balancing a beanbag on your head is actually a complex executive functioning task!

Children are working on:
• Sustained attention
• Impulse control
• Motor planning
• Working memory
• Self-monitoring
• Cognitive flexibility
• Body awareness & regulation

The brain and body are constantly communicating, adjusting, planning, and organizing movement in real time. That’s why movement-based activities can be so powerful for learning and development 🤍👣

What can a retained Moro reflex look like in older children?

• Easily overwhelmed by sensory input (noise, movement, busy environments)
• Difficulty with emotional regulation
• Poor coordination or clumsiness
• Challenges with attention and focus
• Anxiety or “fight or flight” responses
• Fatigue or difficulty maintaining posture

A retained Moro reflex keeps the nervous system on high alert, making it harder for children to regulate, focus, and coordinate their movements. Movement-based OT can help support integration and regulation. ✨

Catching, balancing, and building brains all at once 🎯

Working on coordination, core strength, and postural control while having fun! Standing on a balance board challenges stability, while catching a ball adds timing, visual tracking, and motor planning into the mix 🙌

Play with purpose 💛

We love using a down ramp to support early belly crawling! 💛
The gentle incline helps little ones initiate movement, build upper-body strength, and coordinate the push-pull pattern needed for crawling.

With the right support and playful motivation, we help children gain confidence in their movement and strengthen foundational skills for future mobility 🐝

What do retained reflexes look like during belly crawling?

• Difficulty coordinating arms + legs
• Limited cross-body movement
• Arms moving together instead of alternating
• Poor weight shifting
• Excessive effort or fatigue
• “Army crawl” with one side leading

Retained reflexes can impact coordination, motor planning, sequencing, and body awareness. Movement-based OT helps support more efficient patterns ✨

Why do we use bridging exercises in pediatric OT?

Bridging is more than just a core exercise. It helps activate the pelvic floor, core muscles, and postural system while also supporting reflex integration.

When children lift their hips in a bridge position, they are working on:
✨ Core strength
✨ Pelvic floor activation
✨ Body awareness
✨ Postural stability
✨ Motor planning and coordination

These skills are essential for everyday activities like sitting posture, balance, toileting, and overall body control.

In pediatric occupational therapy, simple movements like bridging help the nervous system learn how to organize the body, regulate movement, and build a strong foundation for functional skills.

Getting ready to crawl is more than just being on hands and knees 💛

Preparation activities help build the core strength, shoulder stability, weight shifting, and body awareness babies need before they take off on all fours.

These foundational skills create the stability and coordination needed for crawling — and later for walking, climbing, and fine motor development.

Strong foundation = confident mover ✨
